Fri 07 Jan 2011 03:55:18 AM |
hello people , glad to finally found a good micraforum
im building a nissan at the moment. i dont have time right now to write som much of it, i will post som pictreues and you can ask me and i will try to answer. sorry for my english, it isnt really good... the engine i will be using this first year is a bmw 3.5L 12valve , probbobly around maximum 650-700hp 900-1000nm. topspeed is planned 300+ km/h ofcourse... next year if i dont crasch tha car and kill myself i am thinking to uppgrade to a 3.8 24valve instead. but for now my ecoomy dont allow me. tha car is planned to be ready to drive in july.september this year, but i will have to se how much money i can spend every month. im buliding it from my own money and no sponsors whatsoever today sadly. |

Looks amazing!!
But remember that TOP GEAR episode where VW built a GTI for a motor show that had a detuned lambo engine? it was basically undrivable....cos the wheel base was too short for a RWD with that power. they couldn't get it to go around a corner without over steering and doing a 180 spin out. ...this will be interesting. |

hi, glad to se so many responds over one night :)
i have always wanted a bmw z3 with turbo, (but i dont have the money for that), i have a few friends that drives bmw 535 turbo, (but they cant do fast laps on track bacouse of the high weight..) i got this engine almost free for 3-4 years ago but havent got any use of it.. a firend of me is machanik for a man that have around 10 used f1 cars for renting to rich people doing trackdays in Hungary, i will be able to get used f1 tires on 13" rims... (that is the reason for choosing golf GTI brakes in the front) so traction shouldnt be a problem, in fact i have also bought a vipec injection that will help me use a form simple tractioncontrol... i am doing al of the work myself. the reason for buidling the exhasutmainfold this way is becouse it will work fine, this engine is only able to handle maximum 6700 rpm and 1.5 bar boost, more revs or boost will make rockerarms (dont know if it is the right word) brake and/or make the rods bend. i will be driving it on ethanol/gasoline mixture (e85) it is 104 octane and mixture ratio 9.9:1 so the pistons will probobly not be a probleme.. i have been tuning a few almost identic engine before with Link engine management, ant the same turbo (holset hx55) and the same kind of maindfold, they have produced arond 700 hp 1000nm. if the power shouldnt be enough the 24v 3.8 engine will fit in the same gearbox and enginge mounts, there is a few of those engines ruunnning with turbo here where i live, and they all delivver over 1000hp at the backwheels. this engine ui am using now is only temporary, it is not a "reel" race engine, but will deliver much tourq for very low cost i dont know the engine weight, but i HOPE the car complete will be around 900 kilo, it is pretty much , but all the wight is very close to the grond and the engine is completly behind the front wheels so the wight balance in the car shold anyway be much better than if i hade used a fwd v6 engine or something like that... the reason for using 2 wg is that it was a sale at the lokal speedshop, so 2 40m valves was the same price as one 60mm, as simple as that, and it also loooks much cooler right :) the main problem today to get the car running before summer (we have almost 0.5 meter of snow that probobly wont disapear for a few months) is that i cant get out the money i need to buy all parts, like fueldelivery, clutch , real racingseats/belts and so on.. but i promise to do all i can to make it happen... one other "problem" is the time, i have a normal job 7-16 every day, and family to. me girlfriend is pregnatnt and we have our 3d children in march... today i plan to go to my work and build a 4" stainless muffler so i can finisch the exhaust during the next week. i can agree that it is not so much left of the micra bodey. but this was the best way of doing it, i will need a stabil chassie to handle the power , and safte is also important, the plan is to have a micra that looks completly stock from the outside but will be able to reach a topspeed over 300km/h. i will do a new interior ín black, use the orginal plastic as much as possible.. //niklas |

i just took this picture of my "family car" outside.
my dream is to move to a much warmer conuntry when the kids are a bit older. its not so cold outside today, only about -15 C ... hope the summer comes early this year... i can show you a few wids on my older projects.. this is my old supra , 3.0 l comrpressor+turbo charged, lots of torq, arond 1000nm and 800 hp on the backwheels, at 3 (3!) bar boost. it was pretty sick , but the weight was almost 1600kg , way to much so i sold it to build this volvo last winter. but it only has a 2.3 liter engine and not enough power, then i realized i needed a small car with bigger engine. supra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeJ9vgffO50 http://www.youtube.com/user/knotannrkpg#p/a/f/1/eAFjPIJYWdc volvo http://www.youtube.com/user/knotannrkpg#p/a/u/0/LOTefZDfU-0 my friends 535 turbo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hC5HfNiqOA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXCPH2fDF70 here is a pretty cool video on me and my supra trying to race at a streetrace against my friends 1200hp+ 3.8 m5 turbo. no traction what so ever, but the sound is amazing så pleeease turn the volume to max. LoL. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vLk1tmp0d4 my friend testdriving one of the jordan cars after a few small repairs , hungary grand prix ring http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zRFNzJithU |

i will show you a small sideproject from today /friday night
starting with a stainles 100x5mm pipe, to thick to drill so many holes in, had to make it to a aprox 96x2mm pipe. drill alot of holes. fill up with some stainless steel "turnings" (dont know if its the right word) my friend that was suppose to help me , found something much more important to do, (drinking beer) thats how i do it,i would have saved a few hours buying a ready one, but whats the fun in that, and i also saves something like 100$ for something else. now its of to the pub for more beer , |

no i will probobly never test it on 402m , i have never found it to be fun .
it will only be a car to play with in street and a few trackdays... from the beginning it was supposed to nbe registreted as a "amaturebuilt street car". but swedish laws says i can only have 15Kw /100kg . so even if i take of the turbo for registration i would need to put in a few hundred kilos more, and with the higher weight, the brakes would need to be bigger , since i am going to use 13" rims that is not an option.... luckly i can still have it on the street with orginainal registration and insurance, if i get stopped in policecontrol i will only need to pay a fine about 150 AUD... to registrate it as amaturebuilt costs about 2000 AUD, so even if i get stopped 4-5 times a year its still cheaper... |

that massive motor will throw off the weight distribution bad, and massive oversteer... but i guess that's why you are rebuilding it from the ground up..

panhard is not fitted now, i will have to buld the frame for the watercooler in the back first.
I am 100% serious, the car is going to be streetcar. not 100% legal to drive on street but i dont really care, all they (the police) can do is to give me a ticket, they dont have any rights to take the car or anything like that here in sweden... tha brakes sholud be OK i will be using racing pads and steellines etc,... maby i will have to change the rotors a few times a summer. if they dont work i will mount used f1 carbonfiber rotors/pads instead... , the engine provide much "enigebrake"... oversteering can always be controlled with better tyres!!! the brake head cylinder will be a std micra (it was the smallest choice) i belive it will be enough, the backaxle is a volvo 240 axle, the brakes in the back is probobly top big so i have bought a wilwood brakevalve to make the back brakes less powerfull. i will also (if it fits to the small space inside the car) use hydraulic handbrake. the 13" rims doesnt need so much brakes, if i was using bigger rims the brakes needed to be bigger becouse of bigger centrifugal force.. the wight distubution will be very cloce to 50/50 and about 30cm from the ground.., i dont say it will be easy to drive and it is not a perfect build, but all that doesnt really matter on a street car, if i was going to use it for competition i wolud have had to build very diffrent.. it is not suppose to be driving as fast as an f1 car, but micra isnt really the best car to start with if i was going to build "the right way" i started to build the car in september 2010, i am hoping to testdrive it in july 2011 . there is a very famous streetcar trackday in july , the goal is to drive it there and show it of... you can se in the film here from last year hat kind of cars i will be racing. most of them are turboed/supercharged "street cars" around 600-900 hp cars http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ0EiizVyPU my biggest dream is to drive on the famous "nurburing" in Germany, but that will not be in 2011, maby 2012. |

LowMicra WROTE: "what will you do with the chassis? will it be a strengthened frame?? was the bmw engine the first choice of engine? " the chassi is built using swedish racing rules. the pipes etc used are regulated by swedish Racing Regulations. not becouse i need it for driving it, but only to be sure they arem strong enough. pipes for rollcage wischbones 4link etc. 42.2mmx3mm thicknes, seamless for chassies and rollcage. 28mm x3 for wishbones and 4 link. boltsizes are all a little bigger than rules esys. m16 for 4 link, m12 for wisdbones (the rules says for dragracing cars m10 for wishbones and m14 for 4link, 25mmx3mm pipes) pipe for seatsbelts is the only that are a little more 42x4mm seamless. there is a few more pipes to weld in before it is rady, but it is almost ready in the pictures... i use this engine becouse i had it allready, i got it from a friend a few years ago very cheap, but havent got any use for it earlyer. |

I really was hoping it was bgining to be springtime, it have been 5-7 C + all week and the snow melted away,
for a few days i could actually se the grass and feel the asphalt on the roads... but then this, it have been around 3 C minus all day and the snow wont stop falling, so now its about 10 cm of snow again... it will probobly be snow for a month or so now :( normolly it begins to be a little bit warmer in march or april, but i hope it gets warmer eariler this year. the only good thing with the snow is that it isolates the roof so it gets a little warmer in the garage *lol* |

Seeing the progress of this thing come along so quickly and to such an extreme makes me really really excitedly nervous.
Like that one Christmas eve, I was 5yo and laying in bed trying to sleep, when just two days earlier I had caught a glimpse of all those brand new He-Man action figures laying on my parents bed. Or that party at high school when that hot chick Lauren was dressed all skanky and drunk and lead me by the hand to the spare bed room... I'm sitting here, like I was feeling back then, and can't wait for that thing to be pulled out and played with, but at the same time I'm anxious that the excitement will be too much, and it will break, or just won't perform as expected. lol. |

yes itisnt cheap. it wouldnt be possible to build something like this without doing all of the work myself...
i do earn a little money doing c ustomparts for people, bbut i try to dont take on to mane or biggger projects , my time is to important to spend on my own project if it will be ready befor summer.... in about two weeks im having my 3rd child so that will take upp much of the time, but on the other hand i will take about 3-4weeks of from my dayjob so i might be able to get some done anaway... today i am off to get some motorjobs done. i will get the engine block planed and mill a "edge" around the cylinders to put down "copperrings" that i have cut out in the waterjet at work,,.. also will mira cut the ventilseats i dont know if you understand what i saying in my bad english, i will show you pictrues tomorrow hehe. also the fualtank is we¨lded in aluminium, i will post pictrees of that too... |

panhard fitted to the rearaxle.
crankshaft, rods and pistons fitted, unfortenly the camshaft was wornout so i am lookling for a better one, frame in the back fitted to support the coolers, a little more sheetmettal/"mud flaps" will be fitted to protect coolers from wheels. and to strenghten the rear fram since panhard and future antirollbar will be bolted in that frame. the fuelcell is testmounted, only need to weld brackets for mounting , fittings to fuelpumps and pipe from fuel cap |

hi9, sorry that i havent uppdated with any pictures lat weeks.
it is almost summer here now (atleast the snow is gone) when the tarmac was visible again , my need for burning some rubber was to big. so i have been buildng a new engine for my volvo, i have also helped my friend out building his car ready for first trackdays. so the time (and money) have been a little problem, and like if thet wasnt enoghd my 1st daughter was born about 2 weeks ago so i try to be at home a few days a week , i show some pictres on my and my friend volvos in the meantime... i promise i will give you some nice pics on the micra during this week, some progres ofcourse... this is my volvo 360 that i built last winter. it has a 2.3 litre engbine, 430hp and 650nm at 2 bar boost, pretty quick car anyway. will be painted white in a few weeks, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVqMB_6zxqg here is my friends volvo 940. the engine is a bmw m50b25 , only 1 bar boost for the moment and 6500 revlimit, we wil change a few details and increase the boost to 2 bar and 8000 revlimit in a few weeks http://www.youtube.com/user/ProjektEffekt#p/a/u/0/YViCa5Cvi28 |

hi, finaly i remembered to take some pictures.
the engine and gearbox is only temperarly mounted. as you can see cylinder nr 1 is actually in exakt line with the front axle, so all of the engine and gearbox weight is between front and back axle. perfekt for the weight distrobution the clutch and flywheel is not really finisched so i will have to take it out once more again later . but in the meantime i can atleast manufactor all the stuf for enginebay. like steering pump and alternator mounts, fueldelivery hooses, intercoooler piping, coolingpipes etc etc. in the back end i am not ready with the fuelcell yet. probobly i will finisch it in the weekend, its not much left to do exept fuelpump brackets ( i will have to mount fuelpumps directly on the outside of the fuelcell to save some space) after that i can mount the backaxle again.. the goal is to have it ready to testadrive on the weekend 17-19 juny, it is a big trackday that weekend were i want to show it of. but to be honest i dont think i wil be able to start it up and get it tuned in before that, there is very short both for time and money. probobly i will take it there but not driver it , just show it on the exhibition, and use the volvo 360 to drive on the track instead. as i am planing it now i will try to finisch the micra, drive it a few times and then sell it in the end of the summer, i am looking at a new faster project for next winter... |

as you can se, it it pretty much spring or early summer now...
first trackday for the volvo is 28 april... i feel stressed about how much is left for the micra ... the dedline is still 16 june the fueltank will prpbobly only be able to take 35-40 litres of fuel as it is now, if i move the fuelcap higher on the body it can take about 10-15 lires more, but that will be a later prolem, i need to get it running as soon as possible... you can se the 3 bosch fuelpumps hangning under the fueltank, they are capable of delivering about 350hp each on ethanol,. so it sholud be enough , even if one brakes down during driving, i wont need to stop... only put it in low boost mode :) also repainted the volvo today, not very "serious" but i hope it will look fine on the right distance ( that is like 100ft or so haha) ' |

so i hacent got the volvo OR the impreza (that is also fr sale) out yet,
so i had no other option than to go to my boss and ask for a advance on my "holiday paymant" i dont know if there is a actal word for that, but anyway i have saved about 7 week of salary to use at summer, but i use it now a few months early to finisch up the micra now the money is no more the big problem , now only time is a probleme..... tha latest is, coolers, oilcooler and IC is mounted, i will fix Ic alu/silicon in the weekend.... watercoolers will b bought in next wwek an welded together. i also have been away from home working extra with my friends F1 cars. they had some problems solving with the new tractioncontol. proffessionals dont use tractionscontrol, but since these cars are for amature use, they need to be fitted with TC. full throttle on first and second gear normally would spin the car out of track imidiatly , but with some tuning with TC8 it cuts out from a v8 engine to sound like a heavy dute boxer4 engine :) not to sexy sound, but it will keep you on the track... it is a similar system i will use on t¨he micra, only with more power AND ABOUT THE SAME WEIGHT :) fästen för IC och oljekylare klara , 4" ic och 32 raders oljekylare this tyres is normally used on f1 cars as front tires. they are a little to big for the micra in front, i will prpovboblöy use something like formula renault tires in front. they are about 650mm in diameter like the other wheels but 30mm narrower. film of the f1 car after TC is mounted and tested :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7B2XQwXB5E |

Knotan, you are an absolute nut case. Both behind the wheel and the welder! I love it.
Well done on all the projects we have seen so far from you and your friends workshops. Keep up the great work and I wait with anticipation for the next update. You simply must post video footage with good sound once the Micra is done! Out of interest, how much would you be looking to sell the Micra for once completed? |

hi, ofcourse i will post on youtube the same minute it is started :)
if you are intrested on more of the f1 cars i am involved in, there are some pictures and one more film from yesterday here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwDe3dgNsYs here is a few more pictures from a few months ago. same cars but some things are changed. http://www.projekteffekt.nu/media/?p=363 yes i (mostly) try to do my best building cars, the exeption are the volvo 360 that is built in a few months and is never ment to be a "seriuos" project, only to be rediciolus fast, both on road and on the track, withc is actually is.... if anyone would buy the micra today i would sell it for about 50-60.0000 swedish kronor, (about 9.000 aud) when started and fully driving i would sell it for about 100.000 skr (about 15.000aud) ,... probobly it will sell to norway, the norweegians are crazy for projects like this hehe |

engine out again to mount clutch and a few other small stuff.
about 45 minuters work to get it out. will probobly around one hour with al clables and coolingpipes mounted later. thats pretty fair. i will need to get motor out to adjust rockerarms probobly avery 4-500 km... :( also intercoler pipes welded and polisched aluminum. waterpipes welded and pickled in 35mm stainless. |

3 disc tilton mounted and evertything should be god.
have measured clutch clearence and trowout for the release bearing and i hope it will be perfect. 7mm clerance and 19mm throw out. i will have to start the engine first before the final test. also watercoolers is welded. using 2pcs volvo 740 turbo watercoolers, there will be a aluminium in 2mm in the back and using 2 psc volvo 850 coolingfans to suck air thru. they are very hiflow and about 420mm in diameter. |

mayby it is my high tempo that is making people speechless??? :P today my middle son has 3 year birthday so at the moment i am sitting home with my family, but later today i need to go to the garage and do some measurements for the 4 link, i am planing to order uniballs/ heim joints for the wishbones. i am getting a litle nervous becouse of the wrong angle of the rear axle pinion. i will need to raise it a few mm to get it right. also need to measue and make a paper template for the cooling fans.... probpbly wont update any pictures today. but in the coming week i count of starting some serious assembly so keep looking for pic updates every night :) i am hooping to get it started at least to be able to locate possible leaks from engine /rearaxle gearbox fuelsystem etc. //niklas |

the rockearms actually dont sound that bad that my camera seems to make it.
the problem is that i will have to run the engine to 80-90C and lift engine out as fast as possible to be able to adjust rockearms before engine cools of to much :( wont mind the noise from that for now, will need to drive the engine a few hours so the valveseats etc gets worn in before... i will take the car in trafic at next weekend if i make it with the daschboard etc, also need to get the propellershaft balanced this week before testdrive... |

have been out testing a bit tonight, interiro is almost ready, seatbelts and a few other stuff left, daschboard ready.
testet driving a few hundred meters outside the garage an hour ago... the tourqe is incredible, it just wants to tear the tires of in 5th gear from 2500rpm... boost without any boostcontrol attached from vipec yet is 0.7 bar. 0.7 bar is probobly around 500 hp, and it realy feels too much ... will probobly wait a few weeks to learn how to drive the car before increesing boost. i need to get it mapped during the weekend, and also wash it up ... dust all over the car after a winter with a lot of weldning and grinding... i promise to give you pictures and film in i few days... |

sorry no pictures today, have been uot driving the car, its tuned to about 0.7 bar and 6500 rpm at the moment, wich makes it spin the wheels at any gear.
unfortenly fifth gear is now wasted, need new gearbox... i will proobobly drive it a few days until i can find a new gearbox. i promose to show pictures during the weekend... it is almost finished now. also need to change from 3.90 to 3.30 in the rearaxle. at the moment the topspeed is only 219km/h ,... and that is way to little, i get rpm limit on 5ft gear in about 5-600meters :( with 3.30 i topspeed will be 259 km/h but that is still to slow, will search for something like 3.15 for rearaxle, but 3.15 for volvo 240 is very hard to find, even here in sweden... sorry no film on driving with higher gears, it was alredy dark when i finsisched the tuning, but as ypu can see. let the wheels go at 1st and 2nd gear is not much of a problem haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwNuwY8h9nc&feature=player_embedded |

am planing to buy an other project for 2012 so this micra is most defenetly up for sale unforently... i need to sell it for 100.000 swedisch kronor . aprox 15.000 aud. am planning to buy a Lola t91 (raced in 1991) it is a trade in for my frind that works with f1 cars and this one is to old for him, so i will get a god price on it (even if it is ofcurse much more expensvie than the micra) but selling the micra can make the down payment. i an going to swedich grand prix track anderstorp next friday and will testdrive the formula car... very exited. anyway, here is a film of the micra from today, need new brakes, as someone earlyer said the brakes didnt handle the power... will change a few stuf hpouing the front rotors wil work at first trackay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LZnec1kl6M |

at first i was using micras stock brake booster and main brake cylinder.
volvo 240 stock rear brakecalipers, stock brake pads and a wilwood brake valve. in front wv golf 2 mk2 front rotors and stock pads. the brakes worked ok but when doing 2-3 brakes from 200+ km/h the brake pedal fell inte the floor of the heat, tjhe main cylinder was to small... throw brake booster and micra head cylinder away and mounted instead a volvo 340/360 head cylinder , (without brake booster) changed to EBC redstuff pads in the back and used modified nascar brakepads in the front... i havent tryed the brakes yet since engine is out but i hope it wil work fine.. engine with rebuilt head is mounted beside the car. only waiting for a gasket kit to be able to mount last parts and put it in again... hopfully it arrives tommorow. first trackday planed this weekend saturday/sundey |

yes it is still for sale. i will put it on dyno 9 july, after that i will put out a advertise on internet here in sweden.
testmounted wheels today. tyres is bridgestone potenza, 210-650-13" wheels back widened 80mm on the inside, then moved out 60mm using wheelspacers. only front tyres left to fix when i hacve time... since i like you guys so much i will show yopu the new project. it is a lola t91, raced in f3000 1990-1991. but this chassie was banned from racing in 1992, the big front and rear spoiler +2meters wide wheelspan gave to much downforce so it was to fast for most europeean racetracks or sometthiong like that- the f1 cars today are only 1.60M wide so this one is really wide :) i will use a 3L twinturbo alfa romeo v6 in that car, runnning probobly twå mhitd0419t chargers, and also ofcourse VIPEC . gearbox is 5speed dogbox, and 2 disc carbonfibre 4.5" clutch... so, now you know why i have to sell the micra, i am flat broke after al money spent on thi nissan så i have to sell it to pay for the f1 replica :P |
