the monster slayer...

Wed 09 Jun 2010 06:31:58 PM
thanks to turbo-march-rolling-shell's time, expertise, patience and determination, and my hard-earned funds, we have managed to produce a thing of beauty.. many of u may be familiar with the setup from when tmrs was running it, but he has tuned it to perfection, and managed to squeeze some more power out of it... 154.5 kw to be exact! the breakdown of what has been installed is as follows:

stock cg13de
tomei 256" in/ex cams
custom bellmouthed sheet metal intake plenum
sr20de throttle body
ca18det injectors
custom motec fuel rail
petterson dry sump catch can
sard fuel regulator
walbro 550hp fuel pump
ihi vf30 turbo
tial external wastegate
custom steam pipe manifold hpc coated
3' dump pipe hpc coated
3' stainless exhaust with 200ppi super expensive highflow cat
3'stainless cat back with 3 1/2' titanium muffler
custom pwr intercooler
custom intercooler piping/intake piping
hks air filter
turbosmart vee port bov
turbosmart e-boost2
autronic sm4
autronic 500r cdi
hks type-1 turbo timer
mercury marine cdi coils
defi oil temp/oil press/water temp gauges
comrade c's short shifter kit
heavily modified exedy button clutch
n15 pulsar gearbox/sr20 CV's/custom driveshafts
jun 4.3kg flywheel
turbosmart fuel pressure gauge
custom alluminium overflow bottle
custom vaccum distribution block
hpc coated alternator
bcrew's coilovers with 7/5kg springs
rear strut brace
whiteline panhard rod/sway bars/anti lift/camber bolts
jap (?not sure of brand?) drop links and stubby end bolts
full nismo bush set
front control arm tensioners
gti-r calipers and rotors
nismo smoked side indicators
nissan taiwan march LED tail lights
hkb boss kit/OMP 330mm steering wheel
watanabe 14X6.5 lightweight rims (with shit nexen n2000 195/55 tyres)
rolled rear guards

still plenty of things to be done... tmrs has already started building a forged block for this with customised internals as per his specs.. built with the ability to run a NOS setup in the future... also have p/s setup and jic carbon fibre strut brace to go in.

aesthetically, car will get a full respray, with the interior stripped out of it, a mulholland 7-point roll cage, & OMP Grip racing seats to be installed. jdm front and rear bars and nismo front grille will end up going on, along with crystal headlights.. am also waiting on some aspect fpr front guards and a mulholland front lip spoiler. 15X6.5 volk CE28N (powder coated black) with toyo proxes r888 195/50 also to go onto the car.

has been an adventure for all involved building this thing, but the result is worth the grief/hurdles that were encountered and overcome..

massive props to turbo-march-rolling-shell... he's not only a good bloke and quality mechanic, he's a craftsman...

OMG congratulations! :) I fricking love it.

The engine bay looks unbelievably tidy and everything is nice and chromed/coated, nice pipe work etc. I always wanted to get blue monster looking that tidy. The ignition system looks awesome too. I bet it pulls absolutely hardcore.

Your plans for the aesthetics also sound perfect too. It will look fantastic, but it already looks pretty good.

Am I right in not seeing any mention of upgraded pistons or rods?!?
Surely you can't run that much power on the stock internals (for very long without bending something eventually). So I'm assuming you already have the rods/pistons done :P

thanks for that cisco... at this very moment in time, the internals are all still standard, however, the forged block is already being built. have a jap engine as the base, with custom pistons, rods, pins and oversized valve springs for it. also have ARP head studs, a 2mm HKS super-seal head gasket and jun titanium retainers for the build. head will be cnc ported too...i'm currently in the process of ordering all new parts from nissan for the rest of the engine build, so once it's all done, it will be bulletproof...

yeah, i wouldn't expect it to last 50 laps @ a track day or anything like that without catastrophic failure, but it will hold up to the weekend drives it's been getting... and the car absolutely loves sucking in the cold air that i get being @ altitude

Re: the monster slayer...

I have to say that I am absolutely stunned that it has not internally melted with that much power going through it - that is definitely a testament to Nissan!!! So good on your for absolutely raping the max out of a standard micra :) Good to hear that new internals are on the way, that will be the icing on the cake and give you the confidence to leave your foot down hard on the throttle for hours on end.

If you upload us a legitimate video of the car pulling that power figure on a dyno, you definitely deserve a place on the home page and I will be happy to update the "Australia's most powerful micra" section and get some pics of your car up there for all to enjoy.. :P This is definitely pushing the limits further than blue monster.

PS - How many lbs boost are you running to get that much power?

Bloody great efforts to all involved. Please video a dyno run just so we can hear those sweet sweet sounds of spool and wastgate roar etc. It's a sound i miss terribly.

Reckon you should call it the Silver Bullet. OR if you're a little too heavy on the loud pedal, Smokey Silver :P

Congrats and look forward to hearing more about your adventures. May the po po's stay away and look at it with glances only.

super S squared..... beautiful work....you'd be making a little more power than the dyno (i'm assuming the work being done by TMRS in brisbane and you at katoomba and all) I wouldn't be surprised if it'd be close to being the most powerful micra with standard internals in the world? please do some nice hi-res pix so i can update my screen savers... How was the first time you drove it?... is it still nice to putt around town in or is it a bit cranky? (I'm guessing not since its TMRS work)

cisco, is running 14-15lbs of boost.. so basically a bar
looks like things may have to stay "unofficial".. no video of when the car was dyno'ed, so will have to wait until the new engine goes in to do things proper and get some footage...
thanks for the name suggestions Geoff, but the idea is to get it resprayed gunmetal grey, so won't be silver for too much longer...
fred, first time i drove it was big fun... took a little while to get used to the clutch - is insanely "bitey", which makes it a bitch for driving in traffic, but not impossible.. isn't cranky @ all... the car doesn't like cold starts, but once it's up to temp, it runs sooo damn smoothly, and that exhaust sound is orgasmic! bahaha... and i still can't get my head around the torque it has sitting there even in low revs in 5th gear!?! i'll take some other pics of the car in better lighting for u mate...
you might be onto something frank - will run it past tmrs and see what he says.. lol..
baguete, i'll get the part number for u and let u know..

cheers for the positive feedback people..
> @ MSS15 and jc: u'll have to be as insane as i am if ur going for a similar setup - because only mad ppl would throw so much ca$h @ their micra... lol
jc, tmrs doesn't share the workshop space with dynotunz anymore, so i suspect that if u go there, it will be pointless if the intention is to get him to work on ur car... can i get traction? the r888s have made a massive difference to the car's ability 2 get traction - was a bit skatey with the go pedal down previously
decim8, u'll be waiting a while for this thing to come onto the market mate.. i wouldn't even begin to try and calculate a price tag for it.. just got the specs and the bill for the new engine from tmrs - not cheap to put it plainly, but @ least i know i'll be getting my money's worth...
