acceleration problems

Mon 03 Aug 2015 05:07:03 PM
hi guys, this is my fist post, but i love the stuff on this forum

my 1996 micra 1.3L is running out of puff when the throttle gets past a certain point. So when i'm driving along i can't use any more than a small amount of throttle or the engine starts dropping in power. this is most noticeable at lower revs and higher throttle positions. this is a HUGE problem when trying to get up a hill.
There is no noticeable loss in economy, rough running or detonation, just loss of power and is completely normal in idle and low throttle so i suspect a fuel problem.
The car is pretty much stock and has done about 150K. Any ideas or help as to what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Replace the throttle body mate, had the identical problem a few months back and a throttle body swap fixed it. I've got second hand working units in Sydney if you dont want to spend the $150 odd to get a new one from eBay.

I've owned many Micra's and it doesn't sound like a fuel issue.

Cheers!

So it wouldn't start this morning making the diagnosis much easier. No fuel pump buzz when the key is turned.

After changing the fuel pump with a new the problem has gone.

Thanks for your advice, but I think the throttle body is only a problem to be and not one yet.
