NCVT gearbox - engine seal leak

Thu 28 Nov 2013 10:46:11 AM
G'day folks.
I've sprung a slow leak between the engine and automatic gearbox. Looks like the seal needs replacing. Car runs very well otherwise. I suppose the next step would be to try and get a new seal from Nissan Australia and get my mechanic to swap. Has anybody else experienced this problem? I got the impression that many of these seals were meant to be "fitted for life".

It could be the rear crankshaft oil seal?
Seals are not fitted for life, friend?

Thanks guys.
Will follow up with mechanic this week. It's annual rego time. According to Nissan's original Micra sales blurb the engine and crankcase seals were "sealed for life" with a special epoxy liquid seal. I guess back at the time 100,000 would easily have been considered life time. My little crate is almost 20 years old, with original n-CVT and running really well.
