Unknown Sensor?

Sun 24 Feb 2013 08:30:44 AM
Hi All,

So I have limited mechanical knowledge, I normally limit myself to changing oil and spark plugs and leaving the rest to the professionals.

Anyway, as I was replacing my oil the other day I noticed a sensor on the exhaust that wasn't attached to anything - the wire had snapped and I couldn't see what it is supposed to attach to.

I'm pretty sure the sensor on the outlet manifold is the Oxygen sensor, so I've no idea what this other sensor is and what effect it being disconnected might have on the car.

Can anyone help me out?

It's positioned on the bottom side of the exhaust just after what I assume is the cat converter. (see attached image)

Appreciate your help!

Kenny

Thanks for the help.

The lambda sensor's got three small wires coming out of it, but not sure if that's just because the plastic shielding has been stripped off?

the one i had on a japspec engine was just a thin temperature probe with no holes in the end paul, but it had a singlewire lambda in the normal place.

Yeah, its got that light on the dash.

It lights up with ignition and turns off almost as soon as the engine starts.

The car is a japanese import, I'm living abroad and all the nissans here are imported.
