got the 72.5mm bored block done at last (bloody freebie/matesrate jobs get pushed to the back of the que eh lol :) )
he left about 3" thou for me to hone out with grinding paste, for custom piston fit (corsa 3 cyl pistons, so a slight difference in their sizes)

:)

fitted the rods and measured the crown to blockface with a CG13 crank (4.5mm, not a lot different to the CGA deepdish piston, or about 3.5mm with a CGA crank)
which will give about 9:1 c/r @ 1330cc, or about 10:1 c/r @ 1367cc

aye :) the stock CGA has a 6.5mm dish eh, so not much of a drop really, the #3 piston is at TDC in the pic (CG13 crank)
you can see how i was able to remove 2 links from the lower chain and skim 2.5 mm off the block and 2 mm off the head on my high comp N/A engine

i think that would be asking for trouble mal :)
i miss the snappyness of the 10.5:1 c/r boosted engine tho (this current one is about 8.75)
i think 10:1 and 1/2 a bar is ideal for a DD personally, but i,m seeking that 1/4 mile title lol :)

13.5:1 c/r N/A proved to be a bit OTT lol, so that CGA crank is now fitted to the 1367 corsa piston turbo engine above ^.
and we are currently running a 1.0 coilpack piston 11.5:1 engine @ 5psi :)

and yes paul it stalled when i dipped the clutch, my maf is pre-turbo with no dump or recirc valve installed, so when i wot then lift i get compressor surge, and it sneezes out through the air filter chooo !
(so the maf senses the reverse airflow and thinks the throttle has been opened)

Is this the corsa pistoned one, and you reckon the corsa pistons are better suited to boost? Or is this one coilpack pistoned and your giving them a beating? lol.

its that 1.0 coilpack piston one i ran for a while last year matt, they have thinner rings and shallow ringlands, so i assumed they would be weaker...............holding up well so far tho :)
and the corsa pistons are a very similar design, and anodised too (like the bulletproof GA ones), tho the c/r is 9 ish (i,ll fit that engine next week)

jeeez what an eventfull few days lol :o
the corsa piston engine all of a sudden starts sounding like a bag of chissel,s ffs, chick-chick like mad at idle, but not so bad at higher revs !, so in goes an 11.5:1 engine while i strip the corsa piston one (turns out to be a blocked pinhole oil hole in the lower chain tensioner, and its running sweet again now)
then we fit the original hitachi tubby and the car is going like the clappers lol, so i up the boost to 10 psi at work today *shit for brains twat eh :D*

hydro-locked from the ingest of coolant lol :D re-using headgaskets has finally bit me on the bum eh
well its certainly got its mo-jo back now anyway, the garrett shaft had worn that bad that some of the impeller has worn away against the housing, and lost some cfm i guess.
this corsa piston engine has a lot less c/r, and will stand more boost, but high comp/low boost is certainly the way forward for gas milage

too much boost really matt, (and the weakened/rotted gasket around the fire ring eh).
11.5:1 + 10 psi must be equivalent to a c/r of about 17:1 i guess.
and last night must have been my fastest engine change so far lol, and i had to re-assemble the corsa piston engine first ! (head, chains etc)

testing out more spare rebuilt engines atm (2.5hr engine change this morning :) )
i much prefer the high comp/low boost, i think the low comp 1367cc corsa piston one needs intercooling or else a bigger tubby tbh

this blow-through setup is proving to be flawless in regards of fueling and throttle response :)
and we,ve refined the reg a bit more, by fitting a ghetto vacuum damper to remove the pulses acting on the reg diaphram @ idle and low throttle (the fuel filter that is fitted into the vacuum pipe, and carb jet/restrictor fitted upstream inside the pipe)

aye

u could try my electronic boost controller method so the WG stays shut long as possible for the fastest spoolup and lowest boost threshold?

the forged block is deglazed, crank journals grinded, gonna pickup some new 0.25mm oversized main & bigend bearings, and waiting for new piston rings from US.
meanwhile i'm designing my own oil baffle

we,ve pulled the TD05 off for a few days to do some N/A testing, it gives me a chance to clean up the welds and check it all over (zero shaftplay still :D )
note the open-air wastegate lol, i was gonna encase it but it hardly opens anyway, so cba :)
the 4 psi setting made it quite slow to react (aka laggy) i dont think the wastegate seals properly with the light spring (w/g actuator pipe too close to the turbine/pressure waves or whatever)
so the boost climbed a lot better on the 10psi setting/spring

i tried it round our track this morning :D reached 5psi on 40 secs, and 7k rpm on 44 secs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et-0cvGpSI0&feature=youtu.be
and we splashed out on some of those 12 quid ebay head gaskets too (gotta get this 1367 corsa piston engine back in)

the previous kart track T15 vid shows the difference eh matt, that was instant 10psi from 2k ish, but this 11.5:1 1275 TD05 is quite laggy if you come out the throttle for a few secs.
but if you shift-change quick you can keep the tubby spinning between gears, and its instantaneous :)
the corsa piston one is about 9:1, so will be just as laggy (running less spark retard) but that one should be able to stand 1 bar+ eh

fired the corsa piston engine back in this week, and its confusingly very un-laggy !
found the limits of the 170/180mm hybrid clutch now tho, so gotta cobble together a 190/200mm one

cheers ed :)
been running another 11.5:1 engine with the piper inlet, on low boost lately, a setup that takes a lot of beating imo.
you have the extra power and fuel efficiency of the higher compression while daily driving, and that extra 50hp from the turbo when you boot it :)
we,ve just built a spare engine up (same spec) and did the usual water test down the ports, the exhausts never seem to leak but the inlets show the usual random dewdrops after a few minutes eh (the previous couple of heads were the same, but it does,nt seem to affect the compressions)

gonna stick with 130hp on the red car, so concentrating on more weightloss and better handling :)
i,ve been smokin the white k11 for a while now and its handling is very neutral, maybe the weight difference, or maybe the rear swaybar ? (unlike the loose backend on the red car) and i prefer the 4 wheel drift in the wet, so a different style of axle is underway.
the design is akin to the n16 and toyota glanza, but more similar to the suzuki alto really.
it only has the 2 trailing arms, but they are held to the axle by 2 bushes, so the whole axle acts as a very progressive swaybar.
and i,m using merc a class skinny rear springs around the shocks, and a bit of camber, and narrowed in width for megga dish, without any poke

So those are the plans, sweet, best of luck to you mate. How much weight do you think this setup will save? And are you keeping the micra drums and hubs?

Re: ghetto turbo build page 2

heh, the old man dug out that ministox pic recently joel, i have some old vhs footage somewhere :)
and the axle design is basically the same shape as a swaybar eh, but a very rigid one !
and the only flex is in the 4 rubber bushes attached to the bottom of the axle, so that any light movement is taken up by them, but that movement gets progressively stiffer till the rubber bush locks up.
in theory i should be able to drive 1 rear wheel over a housebrick, and the other rear wheel should lift off the ground with it.
some more corsa pistons have been aquired too, and the bores honed out to 72.5 to suit, so the 1367 build is back on track :)
edit. yes keeping the drums matt, and i got the axle assy to 36kg, so not a lot of saving really, maybe 20kg ?

the high comp corsa piston N/A engine ran ok in the white car (15.5 sec 1/4 mile i guess, like the last few builds)
but these CG+T jobbies are performance on a different scale really !
we,ve cut the 90 deg bend off the TD05, and mounted a bit of a ram air duct in its place (and panel filter)
and attached them to a very sweet running CGA3 :)
gotta give credit to (fusion) ED,s nistune install and his sweet basemap too :)

we,ve found another £40 TD05, and done another mani (positioned a bit higher this time) and got the weight down to the same as the stock mani/cat.
they had a TD04 too, the compressor looked a good 25% smaller when compared side by side

Hello Franck2,i'm following the tread while buying my turbo conversion parts and egine rebuild,i'd like to fit corsa pistons, but i'm confused about the engine you took these pistons off.Is the straight 4 X12XE or the 1 liter 3cylinder engine? I hope to take as fun as reading you with my project,it help me waiting the parts and know what to avoid when working on my little sh*tbox (name given by my wife!..).
Keep up the DIY cheap and smart engineering job!

ta :) the 1.2 (earlier) xe ones are the flat-top ones apparently mate http://www.micra.org.uk/threads/what-did-you-do-to-your-micra-today.43944/page-91
we have a far more readable £10 boost gauge now, so i can do some more accurate testing with different exhaust and intake designs etc

we can only muster 5 psi with the stock exh system on (and the wastegate wired shut) hardly any boost in 1st eh, but fairly instant in the other gears, the white portion of the gauge is boost (the rest is vacuum) and the gauge tops out @ 10 psi (which i hope to achieve with the ram-air and side exit exh) :)

frank2 WROTE:

"we can only muster 5 psi with the stock exh system on (and the wastegate wired shut) "

but nearly 10 psi with the 50mm s/s system on (tubby,s dont like backpressure eh !)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNwvN5EXRnk&feature=youtu.be
gonna try a collar inside the tailpipe to bring it down to 1/2 a bar, or maybe bring the wastegate back into service
