Pretty big spec and interesting to see custom valves & springs bought into the mix. I'm surprised to see no mention of junking the standard followers though. You junking them for solids or leaving the OEM items?

Majiga WROTE: "yes ive been putting much thought into the oil and water pumps not exactly sure which way im going to go about it yet if anyone has any suggestions im all ears" kinda really depends how much your going to rev it, what the car is going to be used for, what sort of breather system, how much boost, etc. if its going to be track, baffled sump, etc |

we'll my first turbo micra was written off by a 75 year old not lookin at the road t-boned me. i started buying parts to rebuild and intended just to build the car for myself. one thing leads to another we all know how it is lol. I was planning to do whatever i could in the car as in track work, hill climb, 1/4 mile. And i could have done all this to my bmw and had a 700 hp weapon but i love my micra for the simple underdog factor no wank in his v8 commodore or falcon ever thinks your going to smoke the wheels in a cloud past them at 100 klm the look on their face is bloody mastercard. I'm 100% no expert when it comes to all this stuff ive had a hell of a lot of help and had a lot of things systematically go wrong. But im going to make it as powerful as i can :) Alot of thx goes to Kovert and the guys that helped build his car for setting me a benchmark to hit that helped a shitload for that i'll always be appreciative and for this site that keeps this small community in the know.

:)
shimless CR ones would be an option eh (probably QG too, being as GA,s use the same as CG) you order them to what thickness you want, but the CR valvestems are 2mm longer tho (which leaves a 2mm gap to fill, or 2mm of seat to cut) |

There's quite a few options out there which require minimal work ;) |

Yes im still doing all of those things no point having a car like this without the fun. As for the head Ben Stevenson from Bundaberg engine centre is doing all the work he has been doing this since highschool with his dad so he is a bit of an expert when it comes to all this and he is the only one i could find with a flow bench it hasnt even hit his bench yet but when i get all the specs and whatnot for the valves and springs shims etc that he comes up with, he said we'll just get everything made custom (gotta love old school mates)
but i'll have all the info on what gets done for everyone to use. providing this build even works to what i imagine it to im hoping its going to be a little bit of a freak :) |

Spoke to benny today about the head. There will be no increase in the size of the valves just getting them made from scratch in stainless steel throwing in a heavy spring from god knows what vehicle. with the jun retainers and standard shims. He assures me it will take one hell of a floggin right up to 12,000 rpm which ill never hit :)

The stock springs are pretty soft and once you go agressive on the profile the top shims can get spat out. Opting for a solid follower removes that possibility entirely and coupled with a Ti retainet reduces valvetrain mass further so you don't have to go too heavy on a spring, which pays you back in lower cam loads and also wear. Most don't bothet with larger valves but there is scope there using a special gasket. On a big build it's worth considering at the very least as +1mm oversize in the inlet is circa 10% more flow area, which is worth it if you're ordering SS valves anyway. |

I can't put a figure on here for people to scoff at hehe gotta get it built and all working first one thing to have a pile of parts, making them all work in sync is another. Everything takes so damn long to be made by hand. I'll get it together get some numbers up and we'll see what kinda figures ill pull.

Re: My little beast |

nah they be dream figures id think. you have to really engineer the crap out of one to get those kind of figures. tbh i think ill be lucky to see 300bhp more like hard pressed. but if the motor can handle 2 bar boost on e85 and hold together who knows what kind of numbers will come out. it will all come down to tweaking. ive spoken to matthew humphris constantly during this build and he has mates with micra exceeding 250 bhp. I'm hoping the cryo freezing of all (hot) parts of the motor will help with thermal expansion and cooling in the closed deck. extra room with the head gasket for air and fuel should make a little more room for the tomei to push through for a little more bang. IF the head studs hold it all together. I'm going to post dyno video's and what not when it gets run in and tuned. it'll be a little while yet. good things take time so im finding out.

oh well done a full circle rust in the front crossmember of the super s just like the lx trying to get repco to get hold of the front section for me from all crash parts, passed the roadworthy till old mate put his light underneath to let me know it's just as rusted as the lx. can't even put it on the road till its fixed. gonna put me back a bit further on the build. nothing is done quickly in bundaberg lol

if not, and they are dished more then standard; Why run a 2mm HG? |

30? that's low boost lol. you don't need to run 8.2:1 comp to run 30psi. imo it'll be a bit sluggish off boost. 8.5:1 atleast, id be more inclined to go closer to 9.0:1 personally. you'll be able to do what you want and still use pump fuel without sacrificing much off boost

Majiga WROTE: "they do in the 1.3l starlets and getting over 300 hp no reason we can't with our little nissan donks" I think they would have the same problem as what you would if your pushing 300+hp, and thats traction! I also think running a 2mm HG with 8.2comp pistons will cause problems low down, due to increase the Combustion Chamber volume and reducing the stroke (distance of top of the piston to the top of the block) and why not chase a 3 stage 1mm aluminium HG instead? TMRS has dealt with heaps of turboed/hi comp NA engines from what I have read and who I have spoken too, I wouldnt take his advice lightly |

Hey Majiga,
nice build thread, quick question though.. How has the vinyl dye worked for you so far on the interior plastics, did you blowtorch away the release agents from the plastic? I'm looking to use those vinyl dye spray cans myself so I'm just curious of the quality? has it scratched off at all yet or is everything nice? |

nah clean it right with wax and grease remover wipe it off before it dries if u can and after you spray it on do your 5-6 coats in an hour let it sit some where for a week untouched it will cure then it seems to be pretty durable hard knocks will take off the coating but i havent had any problems yet

radiator being moved over an inch to the passenger side and the turbo sits just infront of the radiator piping is being made to put air filter in my bumper like a ram pod. intercooling piping is last for me to sort out.

" that 7960 looks about the same spec as my TD05, and mine,s a big pussycat :) my T15,s were the manic ones, they spooled up in miliseconds, and acted like an on/off switch. where-as the TD05 has a very soft/straight powerband that gathers steam at the same rate as the tacho needle |

Finding compressor maps for the ARMS 7960 is rather challenging but from what I can find out it's a little closer to a TD05-20G, so in a CG13 boost threshold is more likely to be 4000rpm or more and that turbo will 'JUST' be getting into it's peak efficiency range at 8500rpm, so will be sat very much on the left hand side of the compressor map. It'll probably have enough flow to feed a CG13 to 10k so that's a pretty big snail there ;)

Here's an overlay using the Tomei ARMS 7760 turbo as a guide, (ARMS 7960 is pretty non existent on the WWW). Flow calculations have been based on a 1293cc engine assuming a typical 0.5mm overbore.

Block has finally been machined, bored and honed did away with the nissan timing chain got myself high performance chain for $40 through the engine builder. ill post pics if i can of the chain at the end of the week. Still waiting on valves and springs. All porting and polishing happening this week, can finally get everything coated in ceramic. Sorted out adjustable cam gears at the machining shop. Made a front support out of 2mm stainless to move the radiator over an inch to fit the turbo. Got kmac suspension making me adjustable strut tops. Put the cheap ass bodykit into the fiberglass shop to be made properly. All in all its slowly coming together. stuck at - do i paint first or do i get it going first. either way its gonna cost alot lol. |

Exhaust flange plate fixed with 33mm holes instead of 39mm >< fiberglass bodykit fully double layered for strengthening $200 cant complain (if you seen how flimsy it was you'd expect another layer lol)brand new power steering rack from the uk $280 scored there nissan want $1200. Kmac have now finished my adjustable strut tops for standard style struts $486 (stage 3 race) i'll post pics when they arrive. i dare say he kept his templates people may be able to get them from him now i've had a set made. |

Cars at the painters, decided in the end to go with Commodore VE Heron White. The guards I bought with the fancy side grills don't fit properly due to the size difference in thickness from japan to euro in the guard support. Going to cut a hole in the support to fit the grills. The bonnet skin won't fit and after looking at it properly would have looked stoopid anyway. Side skirts are rough as guts and need straightening but all doable and will be fancy looking in a few weeks time.

More sadness at the painter front bumper doesn't fit from the kit its too wide to meet up with the guards, rear bumper mounting point is a whole 4 inches out of place. the guards like an inch thinner up against the door, huge gap between door and guard. so im cutting out the fancy flutes from the fiberglass guards and Sikaflex the bastards into the standard guards.
