mines a bit on the advanced side(around 20ish) for now coz im still using the efi dizzy since my carby convertion.. my last dizzy conversion had an opposite rotation so the vacuum advancer causes it to retard instead of advance >_< .. Aki |

baguete WROTE: "About that flywheel, can it be made to suit 180mm clutch?" its got the hybrid 180mm on the f/w side and shaved down to 170mm on the pressureplate side baguete (with the 160mm centrespline swapped over) the 160mm friction plate would slip bigtime the 1.3 setup has a bigger dish in the f/w, so the auto driveplate is,nt suitable eh |

the 3 coil cut ones were too firm (like the coilies) and the stock matiz leg is too soft and high |

yes nick, and i,ve got rid of that damn machine gun sound under the dash now !
if the coilie dampers were adjustable and i could soften them, then they would be fine (the springrate is,nt far out) but those stiff dampers "jarr" the car on our local concrete M42 or on scabby tarmac we,ve cut the (fairly rusty) front crossmember off now, ready for the straighter /higher ally one :) |

Hey Frank, I love your style of modding! barely a JDM brand mentioned.
have you looked / done the maths for the ideal Header design? Dia of runners? Length of runners? 4 into 1? what size would you run the rest of the system? 2inch? 2.5? A fabricator friend and i are looking at knocking one up for The AUS spec 1.3 with air con. planning on Tig welding mandrel bends, as sand pipe bending might be a bit much for our 1st time. ive had a read of the theory. but im unsure to what RPMs ect to try and tune for. any opinions ant articles greatly welcomed. |

woohoomobile WROTE: "Hey Frank, barely a JDM brand mentioned. " just korean DM eh woohoomobile :) the mani sounds good, i measured baguete,s cube alpha mani primaries when it was in my possession, and they were surprisingly small for a 101hp setup, and sort-of 4 into 1 eh and my janspeed ones seemed too large for a 1.3 to me i think my personal choice would be a similar design to the cube but with bigger 28mm bore primaries :) |

he could,nt fit it to the machine with the lower chain cover on apparently, but i cant complain at £50 tho, so i,ll have to cut a slice off by hand eh (2.5mm step arrowed) got some more 72.5mm corsa flat-top pistons too, pre 2005 x10 threepot engine i think, just need to shave another couple of thou off them for a snug fit :) then i,ll gap all the rings with a file to 10 thou |

and the used corsa rings only have about 5" thou of negative gap, so if i had got the block bored out to 72.5mm the ring gaps would have been a leaky 25" thou
where-as with the current 72.25mm rebore, it means i can gap them to a nice snug 10" thou :) |

To cap it off there's been no "spanking" even based on an utterly uncompetitive time set on a bone stock CG13 with just an exhaust, set of cams and an ebay snagged set of throttlebodies bolted on, (very little effort). All due credit to you Frank for what you're achieving but it's really getting boring hearing the same thing over and over.... |

Lol, that as it maybe but it's still old ;)
Believe me, I do plenty of spurring on for myself. It's waay harder than I first assumed co-ordinating everything from overseas. I'd welcome back the good old days of having everything 60miles away so everything could be done myself, (which is why the chequebook remark is a little off base). You maybe surprised by how much work has actually been done on the car in house :) Honestly though, I doubt there will be a showdown as such. I'm up for a grudge match as much as anyone but I prefer to attend the Peak Performance Test & Tune events. There's less riff raff and the turn out is 100% pure petrol heads, there's plenty of space to tinker & setup and you get WAY more runs compared to a RWYB day despite the higher sign-on costs. Still on for May 7th shakedown trackday, will have a better idea on how far off we'll be in the next month or so I reckon.... |

did,nt need the valve cutouts/pockets really, even the 260/10 inlet cam has loads of V2P clearance, especially now that its nearly 20 deg retarded
gonna have a powerband like a 2 stroke i guess :) |

installation this week :) they forcast above zero temperatures at last
in the meantme............ we,ve been assembling a couple of 1.3 high comp spare engines from my accumulation of left-over parts lol the crank lapping has been mechanised :) shaved a few thou off the caps, then left it churning for 1/2 an hour with G3 cutting paste in all the journals, for that super snug fit |

ta tinky :)
we had a bit of a setback with the 1360 :( it started great, idled sweet and drove fine, but..................it smoked its bollocks off ! i left it idling for an hr +1/2 to try and bed the rings and to mark the bores for later diagnosis, then pulled it back out and fitted the 8.75:1 high boost engine (twas a long day lol) the bores proved to be true and it was the arc of the rings that were 1" thou out (i,ve gapped 10" thou oversize rings on our kart engines for 10 + years without problems, maybe these were just too rigid ?) so we,ve honed the rings into the bores, and the hand cranking compression has improved bigtime, the lovely 10" thou ring gaps are now 40 friggin thou tho *doh* (may as well have had the block bored to the stock 72.5mm !) will refit soon, but i,m reluctant to pull this tubby engine out for some reason :D got some later corsa 73.4mm z12 pistons too :) these have an annodised blue finish eh |

been modding a toyota 4 into 1 inlet mani this week :)
you can see that the spacings are perfect, and the 4 inner boltholes just need re-drilling, (tab welding for the outer 4) and the t/b flange needs to come off to open it from 47 to 60mm, and widened a bit for the SR t/b, and injector sockets are needed too |

Lemme guess this is a 5EFHE ACIS manifold?
http://board.tercelonline.com/viewthread.php?action=printable&tid=23606 ACIS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_Control_Induction_System T-VIS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-VIS So how are you going to control the ACIS valves? the link suggests this is done via the ECU signal and you've still got the Nissan ECU so it's not going to do that. Wonder if a tacho shift light set to the ~4200 they mention could be enough to trigger the ACIS to not power the solenoid so you get the 2 inlet runner lengths. Of course it could be a completely different manifold or you may have gutted it and use the long or short runner length. |

Another link on how the ACIS thing can be got made to work without the 5EFHE ECU signal:

And I got all excited and all.... :P
Actually of the pictures that link has I confused his ordering, I was wondering how it achieved it using the pipes I was seeing. Am I right in thinking it's a 4efe / 5efe manifold? Looks like the ACIS manifold is pretty similar comparing the gaskets so an ACIS manifold on a CG might still be quite possible. |

yes corolla 4efe i believe mate, and its nearly finished now
we,ve fashioned another fuel reg from a leftover dump/bypass valve thingy, and you can see that the fuel pressure nearly doubles when i pull the vacuum pipe off (and that in turn floods/stalls the engine) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdkbpO3uDjU&feature=youtu.be |

the shortened timing chain/decked block/corsa piston engine is back on track now, but with a 1275 crank this time (waaay too much c/r with the cga crank, and it sounded just like a diesel :o ).
so these newly acquired slightly dished pistons are about 1mm shy of the blockface now |

we,ve also slotted the idlegear mount this time, with the 3mm blockskim and 2mm headskim and 2 link shorter chain, the lower chain is still a bit too tight (and the partworn upper chain slack) so this spreads the slack so that they are both a nice fit :)

shortened chain corsa piston engine installed now :) A1 ringseal this time, crazy compression tho ! so that bode,s well for the lower comp 1367 tubby engine in the red car

the nistune board has sharpened the throttle response a tad, and you can hear the "close to det" diesel-esque engine sound from the 13:1 c/r eh :o

we stripped the high comp corsa piston engine this week, to check its all ok inside.
and we,ve stretched the oil control ring expanders for a bit more sealage :) its weird how the 2 compression rings just smear the oil onto the bore eh ?? yet the oil rings scrape it clean. you have to stretch the expanders just the right amount, to little and they dont scrape fully, or too much and cant get the piston back in lol |

been building another 1311 :) this time with 1 head gasket and the 1.0 pistons machined to clear the quenchsteps.
using what i thought was a CGA3 crank (with the 7th flywheel hole for the dowel) but it turned out to be a 1.3 crank ! |
