Hi all ................ New Super S Owner from the UK!!

Sat 27 Nov 2010 04:00:40 AM
Hi all

Ive been looking for a cheap Jap car to use as a daily over the winter while my KE70 Corolla hibernates and I try and get on with it as a project!
I wanted something that was at least a bit interesting so I didnt get bored............. Ive always had a soft spot for the Micra Super S...................... so i bought one!!

Here is my little Micra 1300 Super S I bought from a member on the UK forum for only £185! :-)

Well the car doesnt yet have Tax or MOT and its pretty high mileage at 158k but one of the 3 owners had it for 14 years and it was pretty well looked after. All it should need for a new MOT is 2 small patches of welding underneath so its not to bad hopefully!
The suspension has already been replaced for some off a lower milage car.
It seems to drive fine with no smoke or strange noises so I think im good for a good while yet hopefully.

Body work is pretty good but has suffered a few small patches of rust. I think the arches are a little crusty under the Golf GTI plastic arches but Im looking at going wide anyway (you will see why in the pics lol). I even got a mint bonnet free with the car although in a different colour along with some other spares.

Inside its mint apart from a small scuff on the drivers bolster but im not worried about that!

All in all I think its gonna be a lot of fun for not much cash!

Heres some pics....................

A few spares in the boot too

There is a few little rusty bits but nothing I really worried about and ill sort them in time!

I had a bit of fun with my Corolla wheels and yes it will be running these hopefully while the corolla is in storage! Just need some hub adapters and some WIDER arches as well as a bit of lowering!!

Watanabes:

Enkei's:

Some of mine with mums 1.0

And the corolla enjoying its daily driving retirement lol

Hope you like it and ill post updates as I do them

I got round to doing my first mod this week and fitting a propper air filter to replace the dubious fitting of the old one!

It was like this.................

I'm not sure its gonna filter much?? So I changed it to this.............

I also removed all the unnessessary pipework that went to the old airbox................

Rust = The Joys of British Motoring!! lol
Also thats why it was so cheap........ but Im not bothered, Ill just fix it!!

As for wheels...... Ide love to get the Wide gold Enkei's on there with some wide arches but that may be a little way off before i can afford to do the required arch mods! I may be able to do a bit of basic "Hammering" and get the black Watanabes on there with a bit of luck!
If that fails within funds Ill just get some 4x100 on there just so im not running on the steels LOL

Cheers for the welcome!! :-)

UPDATE

Ive bought a set of 14" BBS wheels nice and cheap but a little tatty! Came with good tyres though so they will do nicely to get it off the 13" Steel rims.

As they need to be referbished anyway I may well have a little fun with some colour. :p
What do you think?.................. (Photoshop)

Ide love to get some wide 13" J rims or Mini rims for a cheaper alternative but the BBS will do for now. I may still use my Corolla wheels but I do need to get some wider arches for that, so it will have to wait for a bit!

I also found a crack in my Exhaust manifold so I bodged it up with paste for now...............

But with a little hunting on MSC in the UK I contacted Frank and we are in the middle of sorting out one of his modded O/E ones!

After this I'm hoping to order the rest of an exhaust system to finish of the breathing.

I also had an Issue with the wipers not stopping once started! I sorted this by simply replacing the wiper relay that I got from ebay

Ive also just had the welding done now so come payday ill be able to MOT and Tax it and get it on the road.

I did however get chance to drive it to and from my friends workshop (yes you can do this) for the first time since buying it and it seems to go rather well!
Bring on the BUDGET FUN!!!! :p

More to come!!

ANOTHER UPDATE

Well unfortunately it failed its first MOT with me!! :(..............

.............However, it was only a 50p sized bit of welding I missed first time round and an exhaust hanger!!

GOOD NEWS PEOPLE............. the wee beasty is now fully TAXED and MOTed as of this week!! ;D

Now its actually on the road Ive been able to drive it properly for the first time since ive owned it and it seems to be ok! It has a little bit of a flat spot but it is in need of a service and it still has a not so good manifold fitted!

I do now however have one of the modded manifolds ready to go on, and hopefully next payday I should be able to order the exhaust to be fitted at the same time! ;D

Ive not done any more mods to it as of yet as my time and money has been spent just getting it on the road! I did however take it to work today, (Im a Valeter for a local Honda Dealer), and give it a quick tidy up.........................

I'm still a little undecided on the wheels but I am now thinking of selling the BBS as I'm not really a fan of them for this car and reverting back to Plan A!!
I will prob use the money from the wheels to buy some PCD hub adapters so I can use my Watanabes on it for that real "JDM Look" ;D (See first post)

I think it was this black J tuned Porsche I spotted that turned me back lol 8-)

............. can anyone say Moooooooody!!!

Anyway thats about it for now............. Ill keep u posted!!

UPDATE!!

Finally I have another update for you all!

Ive been quite busy this month doing some work to my Super S......

First off I got round to getting rid of the rusty bonnet that came on the car and replacing it with the free one the seller gave me! As the car is to be built on a budget I decided to have a go at painting it myself with some good old spray cans:

Not perfect but good enough for me lol

Then I got round to buying a Peter Lloyd exhaust system!! It arrived very quickly and packaged well! Il looks pretty good quality too!
I got the apprentice to fit it for me in work and we took these pics....................

We also fitted the larger "Frankenspeed" manifold too and removed my standard cracked one!!

And we also De-catted the first cat to make it completely freeflow (Ill get another good one before the next MOT lol)

Something Missing lol

Ready for assembly..........

Assembly time.............

Unfortunately there is a bracket missing on the car so the backbox sits a bit wonky till I get another welded on......

I am very impressed with this exhaust setup and it really has made a difference to the responsiveness of the engine! Sounds good too lol
Ill try and get some vids up soon.

I also cleaned and polished it all up and "borrowed" the 14s of my mums Micra until I sort my own lol

I also got some random stickers for fun (inc some MSC ones!!) and got some little JDM widgets I saved from some of my old cars.............
Nismo-ish Tax disk holder

Wakaba Learner Driver sticker

Wakaba and MSC stickers

Razo Carbonness

Wide view mirror

Plug in battery gauge

Race tow strap I got given

And just to finish, a funny pic I took with my mates cars when we went karting with my local car club lol

Hope you like it so far........ more to come!!!!

UPDATE

Well things have been a little slow lately as Ive needed my cash for other things........... but I have tried to continue with the wee beasty!

First off, I went to take some pics one eve for no reason..................

Then i gave it another polish and Supagarded the paintwork to keep it shiny!

I had to get a seasonal pic in lol

Then I thought Ide give it a bit of a different look and tidy up the wheels a bit...............

Unfortunately I managed to get some quite harsh cleaning products on the bonnet and ruin my new paintwork :( ............. however, I may have a fix on the way which doesnt include another respray (Y)

Im probably going to paint the sills in satin/matt black to match in with the arches and hide the welding repair a little better too.

Ive also taken a little vid of how the exhaust sounds now its on! Ill try to get some under load too..........
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgVxrIMLZjI

More updates soon.

P.S. The arches were from a Mk2 Golf GTI.............

UPDATE

Yes Ive been up to stuff again lol

As mentioned in my last Update I did a boo boo and ruined my new paintwork on my bonnet with some harsh cleaning products that dont like aerosol paint it seems.

I also said I found a cheap fix that didnt involve another respray!! So here it is (Y)..............

Its carbon fibre effect vinyl, but not the cheap crapy printed stuff you used to get. This stuff is fully 3D and textured and looks pretty damn close to the real thing!! I got a 1.5m x 2.0m roll for £29.99 posted to it still keeps to the "cheap" theme of the project!! (Y)

Sooooo bonnet off............

And place in workshop/kitchen lol Clean the surface...............

Cut sheet oversized to allow for trimming................

Commence sticking (this wasnt easy.....took about 2 hours to get it shaped without bubbles or creases!!!!!!)

But the finished product looks great........

It even reflects light like real Carbon fibre!!

And fitted back onto the car...... looks subtle enough with a bit of something going on lol..........

Im really happy with the outcome.......... and I have some off cuts lol!!!!

UPDATE

Heres a few better pics.............

Well i finally got round to it........... ITS LOWERED!!!!!

Massive thanks to my mate with his chopping experience helping out!!

We cut 2 coils off the front and 2 off the back.......... it sits really nice now and no rubbing or funny noises!! Unfortunately the bolts on the front were a bit seized so we cut the springs bit by bit in situe on the car! It worked in the end lol.

Heres the pics.............

choppy choppy!!

Nose down.......

And how it sits all done..............

I didnt want it sitting too low causing any problems but just to get the arch gap closed up! I think its perfect!!

Well ide love to fit wider arches but im low on funds atm!! :-(

Ide either have to spend out on new wheels or spend out on PCD hub adapters which are nearly as expensive as new wheels!! These will have to do for now!! lol

UPDATE

Hi all......... another update from this month for ya :-)

First off I had to tidy up those sills with the patchy paint where the welding was done, So.................
......I got some of this..............

Masked it up like this.....

Rubbed it down and painted it like this.................

To get this.............

Then we fueled up........

Then we cruised to Japfest LOL..................

And stuck it on display for all to admire.....................

This week I swapped an offcut of my fake carbon for some yellow tint film and did this.............

And along with some super bright blue bulbs...................

And today I finally centred up my exhaust..................

So all in all fairly productive without spending much money........... again lol

I had a lucky find yesterday........ well my mate found it for me!

His neighbour was just about to scrap a K11 Nissan March JDM model and asked if I could pinch some bits off it!
I ended up getting these................

Yep a JDM bootlid with 3rd brakelight and smaller number plate recess, and JDM spec rear lights. (I still really want the red and clear ones but these will do for free lol)
I swapped over my spare Super S bootlid so the scrappy could still tow away a complete car. I did keep my spare Super S spoiler to put on this one again tho :-). We were there at midnight last night doing this as the car was being towed first thing this morning haha.

It may take a little while to get on my car as it needs painting and the lights re-wiring.
