How do I pull off the front bumper?

Mon 16 Nov 2009 03:40:24 PM
I don't know how the damn thing comes off (also need to take off the grill bit) I need to drop them off at the plastic welders so they can take the middle out of it.
Btw I have a 1995 k11 slx if that makes any difference.

I also plan to try to get out to the wreckers to have a look at a micra without the engine in the way and maybe i can figure it out that way.
Any advice is phenomenally helpful.

Thanks, but how do I get the grill off? I had a look and thought I'd have to pull the grill then the headlights then the front bumper? But the grill has clips underneath the headlight that I cant get at?

Thanks, might help somewhat. Looks like the only thing I can't get is the clips under the headlights, is there some sort of a knack to pulling them?

There a bugger but when I did it a few weeks ago I just pushed down on the bumper and then using a flat blade screw driver twist the clips until it pops out. After removing them all you then remove the part that is still clipped to the grill and insert them back into the main clip on the car so when you put the grill back on you can just push it on and they clip in.

Ok, well I got it all off so here's a how-to for future reference.

Get yourself a flat blade screwdriver (maybe 2), a phillips head screwdriver, a 10mm socket/wrench and or spanner (I used both)

Locate the clips holding the grill in, there are 3 either side, one on top (either side) that should be fairly obvious but the other two (either side)are a little harder to spot. By getting the screwdriver underneath the grill you should be able to see them (use a torch to help you if you need it)
Slot the screwdriver into the slot on the diamond shaped clip, turn it so it pops out of the square hole, repeat for all clips (6 in total).
Now be careful and unhook the ends of the grill, I used 2 flat screwdrivers and levered it off.
There is still another clip behind the Nissan badge, after unhooking everything else i just gave it a slight pull and it popped off.

Now you need to unscrew the headlights (unplug them first). There are 2 nuts on the inner side of the headlight, they may be hard to get and I had to use both the spanner and the socket depending on how much room I had, there was a lot of stuff in the way for me.
Then there's a bolt on top of the head light, take that off. And finally a bolt that was covered by the grill. Wiggle the headlights out and put them carefully aside.

Now for the bumper. It should be reasonably obvious, there are a bunch of bolts in the middle-ish, take these out. I recall there were 4 bolts (I'll check when I go and put it all back on)
Underneath there are a couple of screws and scrivets, pull those. Now comes the ones I didn't know about, up under your wheel arch is a screw (one either side) The wheel and the plastic thing both get in the way, just try to push them out of the way and get in there and pull it out, I used my 10mm socket with a big extension thing on it.

Now your bumper should come right off. Reverse it all to get them back on EXCEPT with those clips you twisted for the grill, now you can get at them pop them out and put them into the grill, it will then just push back into place.
