Heater Blowers

Every 3 months or so, my heater blowers stop working, (well they work, but only if its on the full blow, if its on any other its just like its off) so i have to go and get it fixed,

the garage people said some soldering keeps coming loose, so they need to solder it,

but i was just wondering, does anyone else have this problem? or can you tell me what im doing wrong?

Behind and above the glove box there is a resistor card for the different fan settings.

This unplugs and is more than likely faulty. Go find one from another micra and swap them over.

The "resistor card" mentioned above is the most likely cause of this problem. But may be indicating another possible issue.

I had this happen recently with 2 "resistor cards" and it turned out the blower fan motor was drawing too much current because the bearings were failing. The first time the blower fan motor current draw was tested it indicated no problem. About a week later the fuse to my blower fan blew and on removing the blower motor fan it was obviously seized. The blower motor fan is held in by 3 screws so it is an easy thing to remove.

Thanks to site member "bosito" I was able to get another fan motor for a reasonable price, I then installed the new "resistor card" and replacement blower motor and the Air Con/Heater has been fine ever since.

So ask your local garage to show you what they are soldering and ask them to check the current draw on your blower motor.

Heh, my fan controller has just packed up too and it's a good thing I read this. The bit about the dodgy fan motor reminded me that I can hear that the bearings on it are shagged (been using and fixing puters for nearly 10 years, u get to know what a knackered fan bearing sounds like) so now I know I need one of those too and I won't end up just blowing another resistor card :)

Well, pulled my fan out and there were bits of kack in the fan which could explain the ticking noise it made (but might not), still need to get a new resistor card and have a listen to the fan on low speed 'cos all I can hear on full blast is 'whooooosh'.

It's easy, look for a big round thing under the dashboard at the extreme left, this is the blower (or fan, if you prefer). You will need to move the seat back as far as it will go to be able to reach it properly. Next to the blower is a brown thing, unscrew (2 screws) the black thing that the brown thing is plugged into and take that out. You are now holding the resistor card.

haahaa, that black tube, thats what it is!!!! haahaa that was the 1st thing i looked at when i first tried to find the RESISTOR CARDS lol

well i did have a look and GUESS WHAT "everybody CLAP" i found the resistor card lol!!!
after looking at it properlly inside, it was covered in "black crap" and had a BIG BLOWN SECTION at the top!!

however what stumped me was that with the card out of the car i just wondered if my heating still worked. on 1-3, the usual, nothin, but on 4 setting, i got a stream of air? i was just wondering how this is possible if ive disconnected the card and the wiring that leads to it?? did i take the wrong thing out lol??? knowing me yeh

Hi Napter, yes this is the resistor card you have been looking for.

I would recommend you also exchange/rebuild the fan motor unit before replacing this resistor with a new one. If you only put a new resistor in it will just fail again within a short time (that was my experience).

umm..... just one question?

u said "exchange/rebuild the fan motor unit". exactly how do i go about that? cause i have no idea what pieces/parts to find and then replace, and also is the "FAN MOTOR UNIT" the "black tubular thing" right next to where i found the "resistor card"

Hi,
I posted a message on the site asking for help re why I wasn't getting hot air inside the car when the temperature dial was set to warminest/hottest setting. I put this down to a faulty matrex or the cars coolant system inside the car not functioning, but I suspect it could be now the 'resistor Card' as mentioned above.

From what I've described as my fault, am I correct to now thinking its the Resistor card. What is it exactly?

Might be usful to Know :- In UK,lots of problems on Micra with Heater/Blower Fans are due to bad electrical connections at Resistor and at Fan Motor connections. Resistor problem cured by myself on two occasions by slightly bending spades in 4-wire plastic connector before re-connecting two halves tightly. At Fan Motor under dashboard also, badly designed Hinged type connector with 2 wires, gives problems. Access by removing top of dashboard and observe through windscreen from outside of car.
