germank11's micra-project |
Fri 12 Dec 2008 05:26:43 PM |
Hey folks!
Just want to start to tell you from my little micra-project. Perhaps someone has some advices, or is just in the mood to talk about. A few weeks ago i searched this community for my micra, and someone recommended me to contact matthew humphris. 2 weeks and very much nice emails later, here we go, my "new" engine arrived yesterday. The Spec's: -1275cc -Nismo pistons -lighten and balanced bottom end -helix paddle type centre plate and uprated pressure plate -Peter vaughen head and cams -Nismo head gasket -4Branch manifold and maniflow exhaustsystem -Nismo engine mountings -competition radiator and competition hoses -group a air intake It was used in a group A micra. As far as i know it comes out at 7400rpm with 118bhp. These are the parts which arrived yesterday. I have also ordered at rallynuts the whiteline panhard-rod and spitfire ignition leads. The plans for the next two months (when the money is available): -BuddyClub P1 Racing QF 15x7 4,6kg -Nankang 185/45/15 tires -D2-Racing coilovers -D2-Racing brake kit (this one because it is easier to pass the german "Tüv" in comparison with nissan "xyz" brakes like gti or something) -selfmade shortshifter -rear strut brace What i have done yet: -lightened the car (spare wheel, back seats) -racing seatbelt "schroth" -selfmade exhaust system -35mm lowering with H&R springs and koni dampers "yellow" -front strut brace and lower sturtbrace "Wiechers" My base of operations is a Micra Super S build 1995, black, 1.3. I try to keep it black/blue. Mostly black, but blue valvecover, ignition leads, brake kit, hoses and seatbelt. I try to fit my selfmade exhaust system to the 4branch manifold, cause there will be a problem to run the maniflow system in germany, it will be too loud, no catalystic converter, no papers for the german "Tüv" etc. So i will try to fit my system with a 200cpsi cat. In fact of that, i think the rear exhaust could be sold to someone, anyone interested? One question, any ideas to keep the exhaust system as much quite as possible? Because with the manifold the first cat will be removed, and the second cat will be a highflow cat, and i think the system is getting too loud... advices? I have tought about welding some sheet into the tubes to reduce the sound. I have found this one, a silencer of a gun... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bd/Patent_DE1553874_07-Oct-1971_Handfeuerwaffe_mit_Schalldaempfer_Heckler_und_Koch.png/800px-Patent_DE1553874_07-Oct-1971_Handfeuerwaffe_mit_Schalldaempfer_Heckler_und_Koch.png The problem will be the backlog (i think it is the right word), i'm trying to keep the system highflow... but quite.. Also the actual suspension setup will be needless when the coilovers are build in, again, if someone is interested, please talk to me! The first work will be to change the engine. Probably this will be done in the time from 18.12.08 until 12.01.09. I will try to record every step, and post some picture in this thread! So far, kind regards! Christian |

it sounds very impressive, bring on the pics! (especially the group A intake) i doubt it will be too loud, but you might need some thermal wrap around that big cat, to keep it hot and pass the tuv mine is just a cut down shifter, but these pulsar ones are cheap frank |

Christian, I'm sure you're on top of the job, but for goodness' sake make sure your engine management is up to the task! Would be a shame to lean out and damage such a nice engine.
Incidentally, any photos of that rear exhaust? |

Don't know the exact name, but it is a piggyback desk set or something, wil post the datas the next days. But i am going for a new mapping after e few modifications to be on the safe side! I will be able to make photos the next week i hope! @turbo-march-rollingshell, what do you mean with mad? Me english is not the best. There are no other tyres in these dimension, and i want to go for 185/45 compared with the diameter of 195/45 one's. |

Hey Folks!
I have just searched a little bit the web, and finally there is a shop in germany selling gti-r brakes. Now i am trying to get some, because they will cost just about the half of the d2-racing brake kit. But one question, i can't find any brakepads separate from the stock one's. Do you got any shops or addresses to get some? ...forgot to ask: is there a need to change something else like mastercylinder? Or just bolt on the caliper? regards, christian |

stock pads will be more than adequate imo, and i think everybody uses the stock master cylinder (you,ll just get a bit more pedal travel) you might want to adjust the rear load apportioning valve tho. and you,ll probably need some washers between the caliper and hub frank |

Today i started thinkig about the manifold.
The problem will be, to drive it legal, i will need a cat, and here in germany the law is fucked up, so i think it will be problematicly with just an 200cpsi. So i got an idea, listen, perhaps someone can tell me something needful about it: Would it be a problem to fit 2 cats to the manifold? I was thinking about the tube which connects the last part of the manifold (2 into 1). I think like these: If you use 1 cat (200cpsi) per 2 cylinders, you reduce the back pressure compared to the 1-cat-construction to 50% , or am i going wrong? Cause the full exhausts must not stream against 200cpsi at one time, the half of the exhaust volume streams against 200cpsi. I don't wanted to start a new thread, hope there might be some advices. The reason why i start thinking is the law at one site, i have to create a exhaust-certificate together with the technical control board (tüv in germany) to drive the manifold legal, and at the other site, would i drive it "hidden", there would be to much polution cause i am driving mostly short distances and the cat won't work before he reached the right temperature( in the normal way of construction). <- i am not 100% sure about that, but many people here told me the first cat is supposed for the "cold-running-time" (excuse, i don'T know the english word). I have added an picture, to show what i mean. regards, christian |

Hey folks!
Today i have started on the engine. We worked for 3 hours, tomorrow we will remove the engine, and than the things will go one. But we also have to replace some stock parts ( driveshaft-sleeve (don't know the english word) and some gums on the anti roll bar). Damn the stock-cat have been a whole piece of rust, fortunately i am going for a highflow stainless steel cat. Here are some pictures of the "new" engine, the parts, and my "flying" little micramachine. At this point, merry christmas and have a nice festive season! Kind regards, Christian |

Hohoho... *santavoice* ...just joking....
The engine includes the gearbox has been removed today. It think i will get back on the car at friday. At the moment there will be some family-days i have to be present... argh. Total time of work till now: 7 hours. I think it is a good time, cause it is the first time for me changing an engine and i am trying to do it "safe" and don't getting into haste. Next step will be to clean all parts, bolt the gearbox on the "new" engine, changing the cable harness, and bring it back to the engine bay. So far... kind regards! |

Hey!
I am just back from my micra, with some questions... i hope you could help me, have a look at the picture: On the left side the old bushing, on the right the new nismo one... Whats about the position? With the new bushings the engine will hang down 1 cm more, or am i thinking wrong? The second question: Where do i get the chronology/order for the connectors of the injectors ? I hope you know what i mean... because every connector looks like the same, no difference... but i have to change the cable harness. |

Ok, today i have checked the bush's again, also the marks. Here is a picture, and in my opinion, there is a difference in the position. with the new bush's the engine will hang ~1cm higher. The other 2 bush's below the engine on the "brace" fits 100%.

And here is a picture of the harness, and i think it is wired in the right chrnology liek turbo has said. BUT, will there be a difference between LHD and RHD ? Because in Germany the steeringwheel is on the left side, and in UK on the right side, Just thinking about because there is a differnce at the silicone hoses from LHD to RHD.

To me it looks like that the original engine mount bush has worn out and looks torn in the bit under where the bolt goes through - or is that just me? If it is torn I would expect it'd have been at the same position as the nismo one when it was new.

If you could give a closeup of all the plugs in question I might be able to help - I've just gone and removed all the standard plugs off a loom and marked them for what they're for - if you can get a closer picture of them all I may be able to identify what they're for :) That is, as long as they're still the same plugs used on the original loom.
If I were to guess any of them now I'd say that #5 is AFM or something around that area - most of the connectors around that area on the car are different and can only plug into one place. I found that the coolant temp sensor plug was the same as an injector plug and was close-ish to the end of the wiring where the injectors are, but that may have either been relocated on yours or a different plug might've been used. Sorry I can't help more than that without a closer look at it :P ---dens |

Before i removed every connector in the !whole! engine bay i have marked them with some tape and numberd them, also the harness. And the connectors on the big picture marked with numbers left... Also i don't know where to fit the brown connector on the last picture, i have had a short look to the engine, near the injectors and throttle body (that must be the area, the onnector is wired extremely short) but there is nothing it could fit in... It seems there is more to fit compared to the sock harness.

ok, had a quick squiz for you. number 5 plug is the idle control valve.. which by the look of your loom it has been cable tied off and wasn't used.. i'd be ringing up the place you got the engine/loom from and asking them whether or not to plug it in... but it isn't really needed imo. number 4 plug is for your wiper motor on the fire wall.. you would of had to unplug this to get the old loom out. wire numbers 1,2, and 3 are all unknown's... no one on this site will be able to help you with these and you need to contact the place you got it from as its some custom gear. looks like your running some kinda piggy back ecu, so it could possibly have something to do with that. as dens said the brown 3 wire is your tps and the grey 3 wire next to it is your afm if you still use one.. the injector plugs will only reach certain injectors.. start with the plug that is near the tps/afm plugs.. plug this into the first injector closest to the oil cap and work your way back along the injectors.. plugging in the next plug as you go down the loom. as for the nismo engine mounts your picture above is correct. there is a small raised mark in the cast alluminium mount.. the mark that is painted white on the nismo mount must line up with this., i know it will look like the engine will sit 10mm higher but that's just how their made i guess.. make sure you line up the other mounts correctly also.. they will have the same kind of marks (just line them up). have fun.

Hello everybody,
i received a email from matthew, thats what he said: "Picture 4. This one is going to be difficult. Plug number 6 connects to a block connector under the dash and in the centre close to where the ECU is located. Have you still got the original ECU fitted? ---the problem is, i know where to fit, in the middle between the black and white/yello wone, but i don't know what it is for--- Plug number 4 is for the wiper motor, one small problem you might find is the block connector will not reach your wiper motor because this loom is for a RHD car and you have a LHD car so the wiper motors are on different sides. Plug number 5 goes onto the fast idle device on the front of the air flow meter. Plugs 1,2 and 3 look like they are for the piggy back ECU, one is possibly and live and earth. You need to trace these back the to piggy back unit. 2 might be for the water temperature sensor, this is who the piggy back unit gets the standard ECU to increase the fuelling by sending false reading back from this sensor. Have a look at the instructions I sent for the Piggy back unit." ---i have looked to the instructions, but there are no informations about the installation of the piggy back. Could someone tell me where to locate the water temperature sensor? Later i will get back into the garage and have a look on the harness/ecu and #1 and #3, but i'm a little bit afraid to connect it wrog and damage the whole ecu, don't want to cause a short circuit...--- |

I have shot some pictures of the harness again, because i have looked to it and traced every wire, i guess it is for the lamda sensot like frank had said. I compared the stock harness with the new, and i have noticed that the lamda-connector is missing.
In a few minutes i will post the pictures, but at first i am going to take a shower... i am totally frozen ... |

Ok, i have tried to mark everything on the picture. I wil try to explain:
#19 is a connector at the ignition distributor. As you can see on the pic, the wire is splitted into the white wire, green wire, and the other white wire back to the harness. The red wire on the picture is "dead". I will add an detailed pic, there is no trace of damage i think, and on the end where the green on is "fixed" is just place for one wire. The other two small wires, both with blue cap, black-red and white-red wire, are wired into the harness on the point where the harness comes out of the firewall. Sorry, wrong folder and wrong picture!! |

Ok, now i know the engine was used without a lamber-sensor before, could that be the problem? Because the standard connector for the senso looks so dirty on the inside, no way that it was used/plugged in.
I don't know much about running a car without a lamber sensor, but could it be that remaining wires was used to create/fake a signal? Correct me if i am wrong, but i thought all the time the engine needs a signal to create the mixture, right? |

Yes but i think thats the way it is at every car, opel audi and many more. I mean, when you disconnect the lambda sensor, what will happen? Would there be some kind of error? Thats why i thought the wires were used to fake some signals... but i am only thinking. I am now going to write an email to dastek, hope that will gring some clearing answers...

I got some news, the engine breathed today for the first time. At first there was much of troubleshooting.. all the time the engine wasn't able to start, all sparkplugs have been wet. Over two hours i searched for the error, and at least i don't know exactly what it have been, because i changed the sparkplugs and ignitionleads, changed some parts on the ignitiondistributor and some more, but the main point is the engine was able to run in the end. Tomorrow i will fit the rest of the exhaustsystem, give me all your luck, the car must be ready tomorrow...
I keep you up to date. Ps.: Perhaps the air intake will be for sale, because i need some chassis-modifications to install it... but i don't know for sure... |

Hey everybody, the car is ready. It is not that expansion of power i have expectedm, but i think it will in fact of the stock-cat, the small air intake, and the mapping, it still needs high octane...
But there is a big problem, the revmeter doens't work... could someone tell me which wires are for on the stock? Because there have been/are some differnces, for an example the temperaturesensor was connected wrong, now it work after 3 hours of troubleshooting. But the revmeter still won't work... please give me some advices.. Ps.: Have a good new year! |

the stock tacho is signaled from the ecu (there,s a pdf ecu pinout diagram on here somewhere), and most people use the blue wire from the dizzy to signal an aftermarket tacho. is your piggyback ecu installed ? have a good new year too, frank |

Yes both, the normal ecu, and the piggyback. Matthew told me that the previous owner used a seperate revmeter. But i am a little bit unsure, did not have any 1.3 K11 a revmeter? Or are there differences between the harnesses?

my 1.0 dot has no tacho wire in the loom (nor many base models) if you,ve redirected the signal that previously went to the stock ecu, you will lose the signal out (to the stock tacho) eh frank |

I have compared the stock harness and this one, no difference in the enginebay to my old one, besides the small wires. I have also traced one of the small wires back to the harness under the dash, it was dead/not connected... strange... |

if your distributor signal is now going to the piggyback the stock ecu may not be getting an input signal, so you will probably need to run a wire from the dizzy (blue) to the back of the dashpod/clocks frank |

Ok thanks i will have a look. Another question: the brown connector near the ecu's at the picture, what is it for? My car doesn't used this slot, but on the harness there was an orange-black, red, and green-red wire connected. The orange-black one was relevant for the engine temperature, i re-connected it to the white/yellow connectorslot and now it works.
The brown connector that i am talking about is numberd with #6 some pictures/posts before. regards, christian |

Ok, today i traced the harness again, and connected the blue/black wire, now the revmeter works!
But another question, this morning the rev's jumped from 1000 to 1500, after another few kilometers the idle was set by 900-1000, and now after 20 kilometers, the rev in the idle is set by 2100. Is there an option to adjust the idle? I have naver worked on it before. regards, christian |

there,s a procedure in the haynes where you have to dicconnect the t/p/s, then hold the revs, then reconnect it. and the black plastic screw on the rear corner of the t/b is supposed to be the tickover screw (it an air bleed that bypasses the butterfly) frank |

100% sure, I've seen the maps in live trace myself. One of our guys in particular here in the UK knows the K11 ECU's very well. He has successfully re-mapped several ECU's, including mine as well as a few turbo setups. The standard ECU barely uses 1/2 of it's load scale and the whole fuelling table is closed loop. The maps had to be altered manually to go onto open loop and it's not without it's pitfalls....the K11 ecu's are not easy to work with without experience.
In my case, even on an NA setup, we decided it far simpler to go aftermarket and we now in the process of fitting an OMEX 600 series ecu with a DIS ignition setup. A dastek or similar will work but it just depends on what you are happy with and what your goals are. I am going all out aftermarket, as eventually I will be running a high compression engine with throttlebodies, which the standard ecu will not be able to run.....well not without some serious modifications....the OMEX on the other hand will handle it easily and keep the mapping setup simple. |

By the way, is there an option to get some other speedometer's fitting into the micra? I have just thought about, because a friend of mine, working on cars and switching engines, told me that the "Tüv" required a bigger speedometer (->220 / ->240) on his projects.
Yesterday i have been on the speedway for a short testdrive. The engine speed limiter is removed for sure, it breaks the 7500 RPM! Hell yeah, the speedometer showed 190km/h in the 4th gear on 175/60/13 (winter-tyres) and it is still running the stock air-intake and stock-cat. regards, christian |

Hey folks!
same problem again with the idle: A few minutes ago i have been out for a short drive to the garage and the bank. I have started the engine, and the idle was like "dead". The engine would die without pushing the gaspedal. I needed to keep the revs around 2000rpm to drive out of our parking place in front of the house. Than i drove for 1.2km and had to stop at a crossroad. Ok, the idle was setted on ~900rpm, but right on the start when i pushed the gaspedal, there was quite nothing, needed to push the clutch again and bring the engine on some revs, but there was no reaction by pushing the gaspedal inbetween the first 7 seconds. Ok on the way to the garage i pushed the clutch to check the idle, everytime the idle jumps for 4 seconds from 1000 to 1500 rpm, but than calmed down on continuous 1000. Arrived at the garage (7km from our house to the garage) i stopped the engine, unloaded the parts into the garage, and started the engine again (after ~5minutes). The idle was now set on 2100rpm directly, now jumping, no gaspedal pushing. And on the whole way back the idle was set on 2100. Sometimes i slowed down the car on 50kmh in the 5th gear, the idle comes down on ~1200rpm, but right in the moment of pushing the clutch, the idle goes up to 2100, it is like someone is pushing the gaspedal. It is strange... this morning i installed the shortshifter, and moved the car into our garage behind our house (same thing with the idle, engine wants to die). The engine runned for ~15 Minutes, so it was warm, the cooler was running, but there was nothing serious with the idle. Forgot to say: When the idle is set on 2100rpm, and you change the gear on 3500 for an example, an push the clutch, the revs falling down veeery slowly down to 2100rpm. regards, christian Until now there was no time to check the accelerator cable, but could it be really the problem? |

Forgot to say, a few minutes ago the same problem. Engine has been on working temperature, i restarted him, idle was setted on 2100rpm directly. I also checked the temperature sensor, the black-white wire was only connected with 1 and a half wire left. I repaired it with the old connector (~30 minutes), and restarted the engine (not completely cooled down) and the idle was set on ~1800rpm.

But one thing for sure, after repairing the sensor the idle is set high on 2100 cold as warm... I don't know where the idle is governed, tomorrow i will trace the wires again. Thanks so far, regards, christian |

Hey,
a few minutes ago i worked on the throttelbody. At first i tried to set the base idle following asdames "guide". Only thing happened: By disconnecting the throttle-position-sensor the idle raised up to 3100, I tried to adjust it on the black idle screw, but totally screwed in the idle was still set by ~2500rpm. Ok i have been pissed of, removed the TB and installed my old one, now it works (so far, later the day i will take it for a long test drive, but until now the revs are falling while shifting, and the idle is set by 1000rpm, if the idle is set lower the engine dies.) But is it normal that the idle raise a little bit when you disconnect the throttle-position-sensor? While disconnecting it i set the idle on ~1500rpm, and like i said now it is smooth on 1000rpm. Soooo, next things will be the remap after installing the air-intake, the other muffler (hope it will be quieter) and the high flow cat. The cat arrives today, it is a Magnaflow 200cpsi, hope it will work fine. Also i ordered the coilovers inbetween a "sponsoring-action", this allows me to buy it for the half price ;-) The Gti-R calipers have been sandblasted yesterday, perhaps i am going for some color, but at first new discs and pads. So there is still enough work. Main problem will be the exhaust-assessment i need to pass the TÜV. Any suggestions for it? I think the problem will be the "cold start" in fact of the removed 1st cat in the manifold. I have thought about a system called "cold-run-adjust-system (i tried to translate). It is a system adjusting the phase when the engine/cat/lambdasensor is not working on the working temperature, to reduce the emissions. Normally it is used to change the emission class from EURO1 to EURO2, but i hope it will help me jsut to KEEP EURO1. The Problem is, while failing the assessment, you still have to pay the costs, around ~1000Euro (it is about 1300 US Dollar) . So far, have a nice day @ all |

Ok... slowly but surely it is gonna be stupid. This morning i installed the other TB, set the idle on 1000rpm. So far so good, a few minutes ago i was out for a short ride, 7km from a to b and back. On the trip back, the same problem, but now on 1800rpm. I played around with the black idle screw, but after a while the problem was, by adjusting the screw to the "normal" idle with connected positionsenser -> the engine dies when DISconnecting the sensor... i have been a little bit stressed out, and in fact of that i adjusted the black idle screw with connected positionsensor, and it works too, don't know any problems. The problem for the moment : Either is set the idle high, the engine is able to keep alive while standing (doing nothing, waiting on a crossroad) but after a few minutes of driving the idle is set on 1800/1900, or: i set the idle as low as possible, after a few minutes of driving everything is ok, but while waiting/standing the idle falls at first on 1000, and than in steps to 700/800 and than the engine dies...
I will experiment a few settings with the screw tomorrow, if i am not going crazy at first... |

Another question, in front of the throttlebody, on the connector for the FICD/ACC unit, there are one red and one black wire connected normally. On this harness both wires has been removed. Anyone knows what they are good for? I have looked into the wiring diagram, but i am not 100% sure what they are good for...

can you not see the data on the fly (via consult and laptop) in order to find out what is being signaled when it is "high idle-ing" ? i,ve got no idle control valves at all and i run on gas (and i set the idle with a vacuum bleed valve on the dash), but sometimes the tickover will hunt up and down ???, (maybe my ecu can,t make it,s mind up where to set the ignition advance eh ?) frank |

Hey Frank!
Yes i have thought about it too, but til now there have been no time for reading the datas. But another thing, what will be difficult to explain with my english: I have checked the throttlepotentiometer and the ACC valve. I have compared the results with the reference value of my micra-book, and listen: Reference Value: throttlepoti closed: 500 Ohm throttlepoti full throttle: 4000 Ohm ACC Valve pin 2 to 3 25-45 Ohm and pin 3 to 4 25-45 Ohm. Ok i have checked my throttlevalvepoti, and set it to 500 Ohm closed position (all settings on working temperature) but after a few kilometers i checked it, and it was set on ~650 Ohm. ACC Valve suprised me, i have checked it too : pin 2 to 3 and pin 3 to 4 ~83 Ohm, nearly twice as much. And from pin 2 to 4 ~160 Ohm. But as far as i know there is nothing to set on the ACC valve, because it is governed by the ECU, isn't it? |

Wohhey... today i have finished with the air intake. It was a damn job to fit it in, when i have thought "yeah ready!" ... haha the bonnet wasn't able to close. But now everything is ok, tomorrow i will take the micra for a short testdrive, perhaps i will make some short vids and load them up to youtube. I am really interested in the difference between stock air filter box and the group a air intake. But one thing for sure... it sounds great, not like a small micramachine!

Just a short question:
Is there an option to wrap the tape too tight? I have wrapped it half over half, if you know what i mean. A few minutes ago i was out for a short ride, and after 4/5km it smelled badly. Ok i think the smell is coming from the brand new tape, but when i looked on the manifold it was glowing... normal? Ok it is logical that there is more heat because the air-cooling-effect is missing, and the stell is getting to hot and will be damaged. Any ideas? |

As far as i know it is running a little bit too rich (thats what matthew told me) But i screwed the fuel reg a quarter turn back to unrich it, i will turn it back today. Yesterday after smelling the tape i went back home smooth (not driving over 2500rpm) and in the garage (everything was dark) nothing glowed. |

The exhaust manifold will glow red hot if you are up it for long periods of time, like on the dyno and on a race track

Ok, today i reset the fuel reg to the old setup (quarter-turn clockwise) A few hours ago i was out for some kilometers, city and freeway, now everything seems to be ok, no smell, no glowing.
I hope for some pics with higher quality this week, i have made some headshield to protect the airintake too. |

..."breaking the needle"...
I am of from work for about one week, and i am visiting my parents right now in the moment. It was a 450km-trip over the highway, and hell yeah the micramachine is running, great ;-) I know now that i don't really need the 5th gear, driving in the 4th gear at ~8000rpm comes out on ~205km/h, everything more in the 5th gear will break the speedometer-needle -lol- Any ideas for some new speedometer? Perhaps switch to the 1.0-gearbox? Mik told my the 1.0-gearbox will be damaged, it might not be construcetd for such power... any suggestions? Something i am wondering about: The mileage is quite the same. Ok when you get evil and run it over 7000rpm for a long time it will be a little thirsty monster, but altogether it is thirsty as a stock cg13de. I am running the new engine for 2000 kilomters now. I hope for some vids... until today i was not able to make some clip because there was no good camera. |

...detailed view on the heat shield and the connection point from the air intake.... it is connected with an unstitched inner tube of an bicycle. In my opinion the only way to catch the moves of the engine while acceleration, and keep the two parts of the intake "free connected", because the front part of the intake is fixed/screwed to the chassis.

hello mate, a few things...i heatwrapped my janspeed manifold and within a week it had a 100mm crack down it. also if you still havent sorted the problem with the high idle, make sure you arent setting the accelerator cable to tight, to test it take the cable off and leave it hanging and start the car :P love the project youve got going here!! :D

Hey there!
I am back on the road... excuse me the last weeks have been fucked up, some private problems... After a long time i fixed the high-idle problem. It was a damaged throttlebodie. But, i have changed it, and after one week there was another problem: After driving "hard" with full throttle and coming over 4000rpm, the micra gets crazy. Like there was a little monster in the engine stopping the airflow or something else. It was a style of driving like a rodeo-ride, go-stop go-stop... But after a few minutes, for an example you went to a supermarket and the engine was off for 10 minutes, the game starts again, until you drive it "hard" again. Today i installed another throttlebody, until now it runs perfect. One question, is there an option for overheating the throttlebody? Perhaps the electronic will be damaged by the heat of the engine? Whats the normal temperature for the throttlebody when the engine is on workingtemperature? Hot like "woouuhh fingerburning"? Ok, but there was time for some other goodies: I installed a selfmade strut brace on the rear axle. I will make some pictures near the end of the week. Also i installed the D2-Racing coilovers. I have waited since january to get them. This setup is really fine, but there was not enough time to try different damper-settings. One question for some coilover-experts: What value of preload do you use for the springs? The was no describtion within the manual, and i only remember to me downhillmountainbike, there was a rule-of-thumb: turn the screw until the spring is not able to move freely, and from this point one more turn... Also i installed the repairkits to the gti-r brakes, when i got the new discs and pads i will add them to my little racer. The last step will be to install the race-cat and to remove the silencer from the rear muffler, i hope for this in two weeks! So far, kind regards, Christian |

The lower the spring tension the lower the car will sit.. just try the method that you said and see how it go's. |

Hey!
Nono, i am not talking about the "high" of the car, i am talking about the preload of the spring. To adjust the high there is a seperate thread. Have look on this: http://www.k-sportracing.de/picture/zubehoer/indexpix.jpg the lower screw will fix the "high-setup" after turning the damper in or out, but the two upper screws will fix the spring, and i dont know whats the value for the preload, one turn, two turn. Because to much turns will damage the chassi because it is too strong. But i think my actual setup with one turn preload is a good standard-setup. The thing you are talking about is the "normal" way to set the high of the car and standard coilovers. The K-Sport and D2-Racing coilovers are able to set the high, without changing the character of the damper. Have a look on this: http://www.k-sportracing.de/picture/fahrwerk_hoehen.jpg |

Hey folks, ready for some new troubleshooting?
Today i was out on the roadway on the way to my parents. A few days ago i installed the 200cpsi cat. After the half way (200km) i was not able to get faster than 160km/h in the flat. Is like there is no power... In the first and second gear the micra accelerates perfect up to 8000, but in the third gear after coming over ~5500/6000 it is like there is no power... On some parts on the roadway like a hill, i wasn't able to come over 130km/h... crazy. Again, first and second gears a perfect... Don't know what it could be, some suggestions? Tommorow i gonna check the normal things like sparkplugs, filters and and and. regards, christian |

I have solved the problem:
Two spark plugs are damaged, totally melted down... cylinder 1 and 4. The next days i will post some picture, does anyone know some reason for that kind of damage? The spark plugs are in use since ~20000km, ~7500km with the "new" engine. I don't think it will be a effect of the 200cpsi cat, or am i wrong? |
