Why Garret and not IHI ? |
Tue 10 Jul 2007 02:35:09 PM |
have done a bit of reading and noticed most dudes are using garret T25s or s13,14 turbos on their micras for conversions
is there any particular reason for this? i only ask because i have a huge amount of IHI turbo bits and pieces that i can get my hands on much easier than a t25/twhatever i was thinking maybe a VF8, or even a smallish VF25? opinions? thanks guys |

Nothing wrong with them.
Most people use them because they know the turbo will suit the application fairly well. Thats all really. They're also easy to obtain being the turbo of choice for many Japanese manufacturers. |

ihi all the way! i chose the wrx turbo to base my kit around, basically because there so small in size, and can get the results from them easy, with ussually bugger all lag. there are so many upgrades also, and there's ussually quite a few on ebay, there ussually easier to get, cause there isn't 500 silvia.s13.s14.s15. etc owners trying to get there hands on it. i had a td04l (mitsubishi turbo) on my micra, but will probably be going for something a little bigger on my car when it finally hits the streets again, probably a vf34, simply because i felt there wasn't enough lag with the td04, but that's just personal prefference. just don't forget that wateva turbo you put on, your more then likely putting it on an engine with more compression then the engine it came from... hence improving lag somewhat.. if that makes any sense

makes lots of sense thanks mate!
i figure im going to get the manifold custom made anyway so i can put whatever flanges i want... i was thinking a primary turbo from a twin turbo subaru (EASY to get, cheap, reliable) because im going a stock internals and low boost setup i think i'd get 5-7 psi easy and will be quite tractable either than or a small vf8 or vf10 from an early rs liberty, or perhaps a td04 or 05 depending how easy they are to find... |

get a td04, there heaps of fun, anything smaller would be bordering on a waste of time. td05... bit keen on standard internals.

that sounds like the way to go!
still doing a stack of reading at this stage about how it's all done, getting more clued up on it but its good to have people answer your questions as well... did you get your exhaust manifold and dump made up custom? did ou go bigger injectors or 5th injector route? |
