evade's old engine..stripped

Sat 24 Feb 2007 04:26:55 PM
So I FINALLY took my old engine apart today.

Looks like it died from what I originally suspected..blown headgasket..

and it blew in a pretty hardcore way too..not just one cylinder..two of em..

Also noticed some of the crankshaft bearings were a bit worn, other than that the engine seemed OK, pistons were fine, rings were fine..

Wow... things look pretty messy between cylinders 2 and 3! I blew 2 head gaskets in my Mini and neither looked that bad. Good job! :D

Yeah its been more than a year since that engine has moved from my backyard hehe..

but yes, it went out in a good way..so I suppose those old vids..it was actually running on TWO cylinders lol.

didnt die because of too much boost or anything..died because it overheated/no coolant..

let that be a warning to everyone to make sure they check their coolant and watch their temps hehe

Wow nice work of that aaron!

How many KM were on the engine when it finally popped and what was its service history like?

EDIT: WOAH! Was that engine making any bottom end noise while you had it?

EDIT2: What on earth happened to that timing chain sproket?

160k??

No bottom end noise..bearings look a bit..tired..

The timing chain sprocket..I was trying to stop the crank from moving when undoing the crank pulley..and yeah i just shoved a screwdriver through it..

Snapped right through hahah...lucky i dont need it. the crank pulley didnt end up coming off either.

anyone want to buy a head/block? suit rebuild :) cams too!
