165/40-17

Fri 13 Oct 2006 01:25:19 AM
i have put this in the aesthetics because there not for performance. there from nankang in there NS-2 range. so maybe some shop in australia can get them but over here there about $90-100 each.

i have seen them on some kie cars(660cc think suzuki mightyboy) over here. so on a micra there maybe a bit too small but there isnt much choice
1. 205/40-17(i have on my micra in australia always rubbin and generally too big)
2. 195/40-17(can get here from pirelli or another company???, but very expensive and not much difference to the above)
3. 165/40-17

i have always heard storys about 205/35-17 and 185/40-17 but still have yet to see any...

note. diameter
155/70-13=542mm
185/60-14=572mm

165/40-17=557mm VS 205/40-17=589mm VS 195/40=581mm

so u can have 17s and not have to worry about the normal stuff like rollin guards and rubbing.BUT there not really good for any type of performance driving.

but i have seen them being used on the back of a ae86 drift car with FRONT 16x8J(195/45-16) and 17x7.5J (165/40-17)

they would be ideal for performance racing on a smooth track day. wheels weigh less than tyres so having more wheel than tyre would make a nice weight saving. the only problem would be trying to find a 6" wide 17" wheel as thats the maximum safe and usable with performance width for 165mm tyre. i wonder if those wheels exist?
but as you say road performance would not be too clever. unless you got very flat surface roads.

I noticed the trend at the end of last year and early this year that wheel manufacturer's had started making 17x6 instead of 17x6.5,I was told that many of the small japanese cars where infact illegal while running 17x7's and that there would start to be alot more in that size being made.

If i can remember any i'll post them up later.

Sorry i think that i'm thinking of 17x6.5 instead of 17x6. Just checked and noticed some nice new www.bsawheels.com.au wheels that are available in 16x7 and 17x7.

as i said there not a track tyre but they look mean(more so on 17x7J but still sweet on 6.5J

u can get 17x5J and 17x5.5J but they dont look very good, so most kie cars running 17s use the wider rims as it also brings down the rolling diameter

the only thing im worried about is if it will make a micra too under geared. But 195/45-15 are a lower gear so i dont think its a big problem

17x 5.5 would be ideal, why can it look wrong? just need the offset right to push it out as far as a 6.5" wheel would go. 195/45/15 are taller gear than standard. 165/40/17 would be a bit taller again. i think thats what you said anyway. but it will be fine not much % off standard. not sure what you mean by under geared?

yeh well noone imports them into this country any more.

I was considering getting at least one set.

Not sure yet. There's only so much you'll be able to bring back with ya.
